#572 Best Of - Dave Holmes

#572 Best Of - Dave Holmes

This episode with @DaveHolmes was voted a listener favorite in 2012. Some people know Dave from MTV's Wanna Be a VJ contest, where he was runner-up, his podcast Homophilia or his work in Esquire, but few know his calm exterior often masks panic and anxiety. He and Paul bond over being raised Irish Catholic, hosting interstitial t.v. shows and other similarities. Dave talks about the minefield of coming out to a family with mixed views on gays, his oddly easy time with it in high school and difficult time in college. Paul reads survey responses related to the LGBT community, highlighting where America is at in seeing them as equals and how it makes them feel.

More About Dave: Editor-at-Large, Esquire. Author, Party of One. Co-host of the podcast Homophilia. Host, Troubled Waters. WAITING FOR IMPACT available NOW!

#571 Best Of - Laurie Kilmartin

Originally aired in 2012 and voted a listener favorite, @anyLaurie16, The NY Times Bestselling author (of Shitty Mom, and Dead People Suck), tv writer (Conan), standup (finalist on Last Comic Standing) and single Mom talks to Paul about the painful event that derailed her swimming aspirations and defined much of her late teens and twenties, before she eventually sought help. Hilarious. Gritty. Comforting.

I’m so glad I came across this podcast. There are no holds barred on life and dealing with it on top of mental illness. Such a varied amount of guests, topics, conversations that there’s always something to listen to whatever your mood (handy when it changes at the drop of a hat). I love it. Paul, the host, is hilariously cynical and sarcastic, which I love him for!

Possibly the most precious human on the planet

This podcast is the safe space that everyone with mental health struggles, from minor to major, craves for, but doesn’t believe exists. There is only acceptance and normalisation waiting for you in this podcast & the host, Paul Gilmartin, is the best kind of human to be around. From his humour to his empathy, he can truly be your best friend through some awful times & I have a great deal of gratitude for his existence because of this incredible podcast.
