Great tips but don’t forget about real life!

Episode 4 is a really nice listen and gives some great tips for sitting down to revise and prepare for the registration assessment. However, this is not the only way to prepare. I think it’s really important to realise that the registration assessment is a gateway to clinical practice. Aamir touched on it when he talked about the assessment being there to ensure everyone has a minimal competence to register as a pharmacist.
A huge part of exam preparation is making sure you’ve got the underpinning knowledge and skills to be a pharmacist. All of the questions, whether is be calculation, SBA, EMQ etc are about done starting your knowledge and solving problems to give the most appropriate answer. It’s not just “what you know”, it’s also about your application of knowledge and your problem solving efficiency. Revising for the assessment is not just about picking up the BNF and a calculator. You need to look for opportunities in your everyday practice throughout your foundation training year to develop and exercise your knowledge and skills.
I would have loved the podcast to have picked up on this point. Trainees become overly obsessed with sitting down at a desk to revise. That will always play a part, but if you are ready to be a good pharmacist and you have developed consistently through your training, you should feel very prepared already. A combination of all of the above is what we need.

Just what I needed

I was worried about my pre-reg placement but this podcast has really helped me settle in! It’s helped me with my tutor and I know what I need to do next.
