Philosophy, Poetry and Pomegranates: Ancient Greek Mysteries (The Co-Conspirators Podcast #25‪)‬ The Co-Conspirators Podcast

    • Comedy Fiction

Marking our 25th episode, it's time for another installment of the Co-Conspirators Podcast's trip through the ages. Last time out, we visited ancient Egypt, so now its time for a quick trip over the Mediterranean Sea to explore ancient Greece. Famed for their advancements in almost all walks of life, from arts and philosophy to science and warfare, they are widely accepted as one of the most forward thinking civilisations in history, and could be thanked for the first steps towards the modern democracy we enjoy today. Join us for a very tangential trip through this revolutionary period in human history, one that gave us hours of fun with Pythagoras's mathematical discoveries!

In this episode, Luke dusts off his old poetry textbooks, examining the author credited for two of the greatest works of literature ever written: The Illyad and the Odyssey. Was legendary Greek poet Homer really responsible for these timeless epics, or is the real answer more complicated? On the subject of poets, Calum investigates a secret society that has hosted nearly every famous name to have risen to prominence in ancient Greece. Based on the myth of Demeter and Persephone, what went on during the enlightening rituals of the Eleusinian Mysteries? Finally, John does some excavating in an attempt to locate the famous labyrinth that housed the minotaur. A terrifying mythical creature, half-man and half-bull, is there any evidence to suggest that there was real architecture that inspired the myth, or perhaps the other way round?

Join Calum, Luke and John as we break down some of the most interesting conspiracy theories that the world has to offer, covering everything from the most historic plots to the most cutting-edge psy-ops and even ancient mysteries. We aim to offer an informal yet informative insight into some of the explanations and suggestions that the internet has to offer, discussing the factual and the far fetched, in a light-hearted conversation between three close mates. With theories ranging from the plausible to the preposterous, can we be certain that anything is 100% true?
