*Remember folks, this is a fantastic 2 part episode, so don’t forget to tune into part 2 which will be Episode 42. - Ah don’t we bring you the good stuff!
Welcome to Episode 41, today we’re going to talk with John Huet, one of the most acclaimed Sports & Action photographers of our age whose career has spanned over 30 years.
Not one to be easily categorised, despite his reputation as one of the top sports photographers working today, John’s list of clients runs the gamut: Adidas, Bank of America, the Boston Ballet, Coca-Cola, Gillette, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Putnam Investments, Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine, and the U.S. Marines, to list just a few.. He’s published several books of his Olympic photographs, as well as a book of personal work called Soul of the Game.
In this episode, we’re going to talk about the business, how to do it, what’s changed, and what it takes to have a 30 year long career, oh yeah and we’re also going to try and figure out what makes John’s photographic mind tick...
John shares some interesting stories of how he’s travelled up through the ranks over the years, some of the different paths and Journeys he’s been on along the way and gives some insight of how to remain ‘Current’ in todays market.
He lets us know that when given a challenge by an editor he doesn’t like to say NO! and does everything he can to make it work, by the ridiculous deadline given.
We talk about a very interesting ‘Covid’ project where’s he managed to still get creative and shoot thousands of images…. even though eh doesn’t quite know what to do with them yet….
And of course, don’t forget the always fun ‘Rapid fire not so Rapid fire round’, but to listen to that you’ll have to tune in to part 2 which is Episode 42.. lol

Episode 40 John Dolan Editorial, Advertising & Celebrity Wedding Photographer

Episode 40 John Dolan Editorial, Advertising & Celebrity Wedding Photographer

Episode 40 John DolanEditorial, Advertising & Celebrity Wedding Photographer
Welcome to Episode 40,  in this episode we’re going to talk with the lovely John Dolan,  A photographer with a career that has covered decades in the Advertising, Editorial and Fine Art world, but has also seen him in listed in the top 45 of Harper’s Bazaar top Wedding Photographer List; alongside that he’s had the pleasure of photographing many beautiful celebrity clients including Will Smith, Ben Stiller, Kate Bosworth, Bridget Moynahan, and most recently, Gwyneth Paltrow.
John is a calm and endearing man with a passion to capture those special moments in time for those to treasure forever.
We tackle John to try an understand a little about his technique, his methods and his approach into what makes his work so ‘Unplanned and free’ in his style.
Does a celebrity wedding carry any more pressure than a non celebrity one, well, we try to find out….. especially as both Jake and I are both frightened to death of shooting weddings. lol. It’s just not our cup of tea…
John also shoots a lot of film, which we already love about him, but listen in as we dive deep into what are his favourite cameras, which is his go to film stock and why and how he has become his own walking light meter.
What’s interesting, is that John still shoots good ole film for his wedding shoots and even recently has still been whipping out the 8 x 10 for some shots - a beast of a camera to say the least…..Although he favours his Rolleiflex it’s not the only camera he carries on his shoot day, John can carry up to 6 different cameras with him to achieve a variety of looks that helps carve his unique creative style.
You see ‘Film is not dead’.
John has such a calming character about him and it was a real pleasure talking to him about his workflow, his techniques and about his business, he is so forthcoming with his knowledge and happy to sit down and share anything you want to ask.
Make sure you listen to the whole episode as there are some great takeaways from this episode, especially if you are into film.

    Episode 39 Tara Shannon (PART 2) Ex Supermodel from the 70's, 80's & 90's.

    Episode 39 Tara ShannonEx Super Model from the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s
Welcome to Episode 39 (Part 2) Yep! you got it another lovely double episode, with two times the fun!
We’ve really been looking forward to this episode. Today Myself and Jake talk with the still ever so beautiful and talented Tara Shannon, a Super Model who graced the covers of all the top fashion magazines from the 70’ 80’s and 90’s,  and has been in the modelling industry for 45 years. She was defined by one label: Supermodel
Also an Actress, Tara’s worked with some of the most famous Fashion Photographers on the planet, including Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Albert Watson, Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts, Horst, Ruven Afanador and many many more.. She has been on the cover of virtually every Fashion Magazine on the planet, featured in advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior and more; She’s and even married Spider Man at the Shea Stadium in front of 50,000 fans which Stan Lee officiated.
We have the privilege of diving into some of Tara’s past and listen to what the modelling world ‘used to be like’ when the modelling world was super fun back in the hay day.
Tara takes us an incredible journey, of why she was so successful, what made her so popular and how hard she had to work to get there and keep it.
We listen to some great stories, and I mean only some, of the fun shoots she’s had with some of the worlds greatest photographers, and we even dive in to what it was like to work with them and try to find out a little about their shooting style.
Tara shares with us details of what makes a good model and how photographers can get the best out of a model, and what hard work involves.
Not only was Tara in front of the camera but she also documented nearly all of her shoots with BTS shots of her own, in fact she has a whole library of images of people like Helmut Newton, Avedon, Irving Penn, Herb Ritts and many more that she shot on her own Pentax 110..
This episode is just a gold mine of beautiful interesting detailed information and stories full of passion from this very super talented lady, who is still just as beautiful ever. An episode that would suit any creative and most certainly a deeper interest for the Photographers and models of this world.
Don’t forget to listen to Episode 39, which is part 2 of this  glorious episode.
No Joke, we could of spoken to Tara for at least a week!

Episode 36 Libby DeLana Award Winning Creative Director, designer, Art Director

Episode 36 Libby DeLana Award Winning Creative Director, designer, Art Director

Episode 36 Libby DeLana Award Winning Creative Director, designer, Art Director
    Welcome to Episode 36,
Today Jake and I are talking with the Award Winning Creative Director, Designer, Art Director and Co-Founder of Mechanica Libby DeLana.
Libby has been at the forefront of the Marketing 7 Advertising world for many decades, where her work has won many industry awards including OneShow, Cannes Lions, D&AD, Kelly, Webby, Hatch etc.. In addition she has been profiled by BBC for a series called "The Chain," where leading women figures name the woman who's inspired their success.
Even more impressive is that Libby has taken to going for a morning walk before work, a walk thats lasted for 9 years so far, which has led to her circumnavigating the earth. How many pairs of walking shoes is that?If thats not enough Libby also recently started modelling as well, helping to put models, in their mature years, on the map with a huge impact.
Want to know about marketing your business, what the trends are and how to present yourself to get potential new clients, then this episode could be for you…
We enter Libby’s world to talk about clients and Ad campaigns, what’s the process what things do they need to know from clients to make a successful campaign and how things are changing in these current times of the digital age. Are there better ways to brand a company and not use stock photo libraries!
We discuss things you should certainly be doing with your business, what clients expect as standard now from your shoot on set as a photographer, if your not filming BTS then maybe you should seriously be thinking about it.
Failure, is it a thing or just an opportunity to make something better, should the word ‘Failure’ be re-branded?
Don’t forget the Fun 10 question ‘Rapid Fire not so Rapid fire round’ in the middle of the show….we have some fun ones today that’s for sure.

Fantastic podcast

Loving episode 23, made me crack up! 😀

Haven’t laughed so hard in a long time

Episodes 17 & 18 with Benjamin Kanarek are quite possible two of the funniest and best podcast episode I have ever listened to. Great stories from the world of fashion photography but also great insight and some great advice sprinkled in too. Really can’t recommend them, and the podcast in general, enough. And a whole load more episodes with Benjamin wouldn’t go amiss either 😀
