Ep. 31 - The Power of Coaching with Trang Nguyen

Trang is a Melbourne based Physiotherapist and strength and conditioning coach. Trang supports endurance athletes to reach their highest potential through her platform The Motion Mechanic, where she shares her coaching programs, podcast, and informative instagram account.

This was a really inspiring chat and I loved that we got to speak about mindset, your sphere of influence and the power of coaching, as these are all areas I believe are really relevant to running.

We also cover nutrition, personal development through training and a bit about Trang’s early days getting into running. Trang talks about running technique and some tips for beginner runners to keep in mind, common strength training mistakes that runners make and plenty more.

You can connect with Trang on Instagram, check out her podcast and learn more about how she supports endurance athletes.

Travis Boyle is a Melbourne based marathon and ultramarathon runner. His running journey started just a few years ago and since then he has made huge progress, achieving some phenomenal results from the 5km to trail ultras.
Mainly playing football and tennis in his younger years, Trav calls himself a 'late bloomer' - and bloom he certainly has! He ran a 3:48 marathon in 2016 to less than three years later achieving a PB of 2:37. The dedication and commitment Trav has made to bettering himself as a runner is inspiring.

Ep. 29 - The Mindset of a World Champion with Emma Carney

Ep. 29 - The Mindset of a World Champion with Emma Carney

“Less is more. You don’t need to do a lot to get better.”
Emma Carney is a world champion triathlete, Australian Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Change Our Game Ambassador and high performance triathlon coach.
Emma was a powerhouse throughout the 90’s and dominated the sport of triathlon for much of her career, taking the sport to a new level. Her racing career came to a halt when she was diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
In this episode, Emma walks us through her rise to sporting success from her early days in school athletics to becoming a world champion. What really came through for me is Emma’s mindset, work ethic and determination to succeed. If you want an insight into what it takes to be the best, this is a must listen.
Keep an eye out for the release of Emma’s book later in 2020, and connect with her via Instagram or her website.

Ep. 28 - Run Coaching and the Running BOOM 2.0 with Tim Crosbie

Ep. 28 - Run Coaching and the Running BOOM 2.0 with Tim Crosbie

Tim Crosbie is one of the most well known running coaches in Melbourne and has had a significant involvement in the recreational running scene for many years.

I met Tim during the Level 1 Recreational Runners course in June this year, where Tim was the lead facilitator.

In this chat, we go over the importance of being a well rounded runner, what the ‘art of coaching means’, mental health and running, the ParkRun effect and so much more.

Tim’s running career started in the late 1970’s during the first running boom. He was a competitive athlete and ran a number of marathons before switching to track running which culminated in making the final of the Australian 1500m Championship in 1993.

Tim started coaching in the late 90’s and now leads a running club - The Crosbie Crew - now numbering over 300 members. He has coached runners of all levels, from beginners through to Australian representatives across a number of disciplines, with one of his highlights of his coachung being Kirstin Bull's victory in the 2016 World 100km Road Championship.

Tim has been heavily involved in the development of the Recreational Running Coach framework in Australia and works as the Recreational Running Coordinator for Athletics Victoria.

This episode is full of wisdom as Tim shares some incredible insights that only a seasoned coach can bring.

Ep. 27 - Plant Based Nutrition for Runners

Ep. 27 - Plant Based Nutrition for Runners

With the growing trend in plant based and vegan patterns of eating, more and more runners are looking to incorporate more plant foods into their diet to improve their health, performance, feel better and for ethical reasons.

In this episode of the podcast, I give an overview of and an intro to plant based eating. I have been vegan for three and a half years now, and vegetarian for several years prior to that so I have a keen interest in this area of nutrition.

I cover how I came to be vegan, what a vegan and plant diet actually is (and the difference between those two terms) some (but not all) important nutritional considerations for those eating a predominantly plant based diet and quick tips on how to transition.

I also shared some of my favourite, easy vegan recipes which I’ll share over on Instagram.

The information within this episode is general in nature and I recommend you consult with your doctor or a dietitian should you have any individual concerns or questions around your personal situation related to diet & health.
