An unhealthy first marriage resulted in an unhealthy, overweight, stay-at-home mom of 3 boys for our guest Melinda for years. As a divorcee, she then became responsible for caring for and financially supporting her sons and she didn’t know what to do. Unhappy with her own physical appearance, Melinda lacked the self-confidence to even go out and apply for a job. Determined to change that though, Melinda transformed not only her body, but her life altogether. At 40 years old she was in better health than she had ever been and was involved with a great man to whom she married shortly thereafter. Melinda’s amazing health journey led to increased fertility and she conceived shortly after getting married to the love of her life.

While both of Mary Beth’s pregnancies were relatively healthy at 38 and 41, she is very candid in this “Pregnancy After 40” episode about the mental and physical toll that pregnancy had on her which prevented her from truly enjoying the time she spent carrying her daughters. During this journey, Mary Beth talks about how her initial reluctance in having to visit both her OB and MFM Specialist on different days during her 3rd trimester ended up being a lifesaver for her daughter and led to her being induced. She also shares how chiropractic treatments helped alleviate some of her pregnancy-related ailments, both of her traumatic deliveries, and destigmatizing Postpartum Depression (PPD).

An easy natural conception for her first child at 39 years old led Leann and her husband to believe that it would not take that long to conceive their second child. Several years later with a miscarriage along the way, Leann shares her “Pregnancy After 40” story and journey, including an emergency induction due to high blood pressure which turned into preeclampsia. Many hours later, Leann’s daughter was born several weeks early and had to return to the hospital days after being discharged because their pediatrician initially disregarded the seriousness of their newborn’s jaundice, which required an admittance to the hospital again where their baby almost needed a blood transfusion.
