Rachel Allen & Nick Bright guest on The Business Show 4th Feb 2021 The Enterprise Doctor Business Show

    • Entrepreneurship

The Business Show which was broadcast live on Marlow FM 97.5 on 4th Feb 2021 is now available here, with copyright material such as the news, adverts and music edited out.
My guests on this show were Rachel Allen and Nick Bright.  You can connect with them via https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachelemilyallen/ and https://www.linkedin.com/in/nzbright/ respectively if you want to talk to either of them about their day job, or indeed about today’s show.
I say in the show that listeners can only hear “Sweet Dreams My LA Ex” by Rachel Stevens, but you can both see and hear it at https://youtu.be/L173wbF4g4c - don’t forget to come back to the podcast after you’ve watched it!
I first talk to Rachel (Allen, not Stevens) about her business, Making Business Social, details of which you can find at https://makingbusinesssocial.co.uk/ , and how she teaches people how to do social media, rather than doing it for them.  I then chat with Nick about his business, https://www.photosbybright.com/ , and it leads to an intriguing conversation about paperclips!
“Independent Women” by Destiny’s Child was Rachel’s choice of music, for all of the people on their own right now.  You can hear it at https://youtu.be/0lPQZni7I18 .
The story at https://metro.co.uk/2020/10/28/marketing-myths-busted-expert-social-media-visibilty-13491204/sparked out first conversation, not least because Rachel features in the article!  As well as discussing the article, we talk about how to get your name in the papers, and the business benefits (and risks!) of doing so.
Nick’s music choice was “Can’t Stop” from Red Hot Chilli Peppers – you can hear it at https://youtu.be/8DyziWtkfBw
We then had an alcohol based conversation (not an alcohol fuelled one) prompted by Nick’s find at https://metro.co.uk/2020/10/14/brewdog-and-aldi-team-up-to-launch-limited-edition-ald-ipa-13419567/ - a brilliant example of collaborative working and collaborative marketing.
The coming gigabit broadband services was our next conversation, with Marlow to be an early adopter, as mentioned in the story at https://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/19050849.bucks-sees-swish-fibre-broadband-begin-building-work/ .  Our conversation was mostly about the business benefits of gigabit broadband.  Are there any?
Robot deliveries?  Really??  Yup, as per https://www.mkfm.com/news/local-news/company-behind-milton-keynes-starship-robots-celebrates-1-million-deliveries-worldwide/ .  But how does that work for businesses, and will robots cope with imperfect pavements?
I started the show with a song by Rachel for Rachel.  I close the show with a song for Mr Bright, called “Mr Brightside” (by The Killers) – you can hear it at https://youtu.be/gGdGFtwCNBE .
I hope you enjoy the show!
