    Episode 26 - Lorna Young

    Hello,

I am Bryna, and this is Ran By Nature

Welcome to episode 26. Today I had the pleasure to chat with Lorna. Dr Lorna Young. Lorna and I are friends, and have known each other for what we think is over 25 years. We used to run together (and with her sisters) in sunny Yorkshire, back in the UK. We are both still running. We both work in science related disciplines, and we have both started a business. Today we talk about the fact that runners don’t just run. Lorna has her own podcast with her friend Nicola (Two Yorkshire Birds), and they discuss all the different interests that runners do have (they really don’t just spend their day running miles and miles). We all know the important of exercise or movement for our health. But health also has many other dimensions to it. And indeed exercise and running doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. Lorna completed her first marathon earlier this month in London (congratulations again Lorna). She really enjoyed it. Her preparation and training was not ‘typical or traditional’ though. When you think of a marathon training program, you probably think of hours and hours of running. Now I am not at all suggesting you don’t need to run. And you can just rock up at the start line of marathon with no preparation. But your preparation does not have to look like the cardboard copy of the plans you find online. We all have different bodies and approaches to training and movement. Have you taken a different approach to exercise or sport? Is there a path you have taken which is considered ‘not typical’? Episode 25 - Soraya

    Episode 25 - Soraya

    Hello,

I am Bryna, and this is Ran By Nature

Welcome to episode 25. Today I had the pleasure to chat with Soraya about exercise. When I asked Soraya to talk about exercise and fitness she wasn’t sure she had much to talk about. But as you will hear today, we all have a relationship with movement. And our experiences, emotions and thoughts around movement are all unique, and therefore, our workouts should be just as individual and unique. It really doesn’t matter what someone else is doing, you’re the only one that matters. Despite what ‘Karen’ or your left brain try’s to tell you.

Soraya has an incredible amount of self awareness, which she brings to her love of cross fit, art, writing and amazing work in empowering women and those left ‘on the outside’.  By founding All The Elements, and through other pursuits, Soraya is connecting herself and other humans to nature. And reminding us all about how wonderful this planet is, and how we all belong in the outdoors.

    Episode 24 - Jordan Thomas

    Episode 24 - Jordan Thomas

    Hello,

I am Bryna, and this is Ran By Nature

Welcome to episode 24 with Jordan, Jordan Thomas, who at 24 years old won the World Karate Championship – the first time in 12 years that England had won this title. From 2016 to 2020 the focus was of course on Tokyo and the Olympics. Where Karate would be included for the first time. But Jordan took a kick to the head late on in qualifying, and got beat. He didn’t make the team. This wasn’t the first time he had faced a difficult and challenging situation. As you will hear in today’s episode Jordan has built up, and worked very hard on his mental resilience. He is also using his platform and Karate for good. To help children, by taking karate and mental health and mindfulness into schools. There are so many wonderful tips and thoughts that Jordan shares today, which I know will help you in so many different areas of life. And just a few days after World Mental Health day, I know we could all do with being a little kinder to ourselves. Practicing some gratitude, and using positive affirmations to realize just how far we have come in life. I would love to hear your feedback and questions following this episode. Episode 23 - Tasha

    Episode 23 - Tasha

    Hello,

I am Bryna, and this is Ran By Nature

Welcome to episode 23 with Tasha, a runner and founder of Black Girls Do Run UK. But this is not your usual running chat. Whilst Strava and PBs do have their place in running, today we are talking about smiling and tutu’s, because not every runner is the same. Tasha is truly refreshing, such a wonderful ball of energy. And how she brings mindfulness and gratitude into her running and daily life is inspiring. I hope today can nudge you into reflecting on you running (or indeed your workout/exercise routine). Because we all tend to follow the same patterns and habits. And we rarely take time to reflect. To look in the mirror. And ask ourselves. Is this habit serving me? Great if it is. But maybe you are finding that your exercise habits no longer serve who you are, or who you want to be. I would love to hear your feedback and questions following this episode. * Trigger warning – in today’s episode we talk about disordered eating and eating disorders. So if you feel like you are not in a place to be able to listen to this, please skip the episode. And reach out to someone if you need help

    Hello,

I am Bryna, and this is Ran By Nature.

Welcome to episode 22 with Hannah Lewin, a personal trainer, and founder of Mind Plus Motion – an online tool providing movement sessions and worksheets to support recovery from disordered relationships with exercise and food. This self-funded project comes from Hannah’s own lived experience, and her professional experience as a PT working with people who have disordered eating and eating disorders. Hannah approaches movement in a different way. Putting the mind and needs of the people she works with first. Offering a safe space for everyone to move their body in a way that they want to. I hope that by listening to todays episode you think about your own relationship with movement, how your words and actions shape how you feel. I would love to hear your feedback and questions following this episode. Leave a comment, a review and tag me on social media.
