Jonn Elledge on 31 Inventions That Built Our World - Book Club

RHLSTP Book Club #197 - 31 Inventions That Built Our World - In a book club first an author (that I am not married to) has come to Hitchin for a face to face chat. Jonn Elledge is here to discuss his latest book 31 Inventions That Built Our World as well as how close he came to being in a Harry Potter film. They chat about his previous books about borders and conspiracy theories (and a possibly true one about Britney Spears) and then discuss the infrastructure of our modern world that we take for granted and how it got here. This includes how the car helped create the concept of teenagers and changed the world of dating, why electric cars failed to gain traction the first time they were introduced and why people thought they were only for women, how lighting destroyed the concept of first and second sleeps, how William Huskisson might not be the first person to be killed by a train and how he was the third most famous aspect of his own death anyway and how this book changes the way you look at the world, Buy the book here - https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/31-inventions-that-built-our-world-from-the-sunday-times-1-bestselling-author-of-a-history-of-the-world-in-47-borders-jonn-elledge/fcf314aacc4bcd9b SUPPORT THE SHOW! Felicity Ward - "Champagne Supernova"

RHLSTP #631 - Champagne Supernova - Richard is four shows into his Fringe run and has crossed the one line that Ricky Gervais fans will not tolerate and he’s a bit under the weather and immune compromised so this may be his last show. Luckily his guest is a healing force of nature - Felicity Ward. They talk about Covid, death, divorce and cancer and how these things are all comedy gold, plus Dancing with the Stars, being the Australian David Brent (and a second red line for Gervais fans), getting cast in another one series but brilliant show, Time Bandits and meeting Lisa Kudrow and whether Richard could do with a therapist and whether it’s worth having kids in case you lose an organ. Another really lively and fun show. Don’t skip it! See RHLSTP live http://richardherring.com/rhlstp SUPPORT THE SHOW! Bridget Christie (Retro) - "Unchained Melody"

#453 Unchained Melody - Richard has got very angry with a cold caller - was he in there right? His guest is brilliant stand up and creator of new TV comedy “The Change”, Bridget Christie. In an explosive opening they discuss why Richard isn’t presenting the Masked Singer (amongst much else) and why he is evil for eating chocolate buttons, but then things calm down a bit as they discuss Bridget’s major TV debut, whether men do an equal share of household duties and the app that might help, why there are so few comedy shows about middle aged women, how getting older can be liberating and how amazing it is to have a channel and production team that let you get on with your vision. Plus working with Jerome Flynn and what it was like for Richard to introduce him on Top of the Pops. Also the primeval dance with Greg Davies and the extraordinary power of Taskmaster and getting to appear on Ghosts. Rich and Ally's Craven Newsround Compilation - Randrew Andrew’s No Can Do

5th October 2026 - Randrew Andrew’s No Can Do - It’s a new week on Newsround, but same old rubbish. Today Rich, Ally and channel-mandated co-host Ziggy look at Andrew Mountbattenburg-Iceburg-Lettuce-Withagladsomemind- Windsor-Peppapigland attempt to prosecute the police who dared arrest him when he’s (apparently) done nothing wrong. With the interview that the lamestreamers would kill for Randrew Andrew himself. 7th October 2026 - Penile System - It’s a serious topic for today’s Newsround - is it OK to kill a murderer or does that just make you a murderer too? Who better to work this out than a washed-up comedian, a 134 year old ventriloquist dummy and a naked baby with a disembodied arm? No one that is who. 8th October 2026 - Flea Glob - Rich and Ally (and Ziggy?) look at the upcoming new pandemic and the return of the plague and try to accentuate the positive. A brave reporter is over at the Russian plague lab now and will let the world know how close to extinction we are. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Reece Shearsmith on Things I Took From The Dark - Book Club

RHLSTP Book Club #196 - Things I Took From The Dark - Richard returns to the Podcast Room (he’s actually been sitting in here for four straight hours) to talk to top RHLSTP guest Reece Shearsmith about his new memoir crossed with an adult Usborne book of Ghosts , Things I Took From the Dark. They chat about Reece’s spooky childhood, failing to catch bats in a net and having his magic tricks spoiled by his Uncle Geoff, how schools in the 70s had a definite echo of the Victorian about them, an horrific car crash (thankfully with no fatalities) and the part played by a tiny plastic skull, the 2016 appearance of clowns across Europe, the furious running knot man, why the devil does what he does and why there won’t be a filmed version of the Inside Number 9 stage show. Susie McCabe - "Spot the Ball"

RHLSTP #630 - Spot The Ball - Richard is appalled by an email recommendation and what it says about him, but doesn’t have time to think about it too much as his guest is the brilliant stand-up Susie McCabe. They chat about all the terrible things that have happened to her since her last appearance, which make Richard’s puny cancers seem pathetic, finding the funny in your own father’s funeral, why Susie ended up with Thatcher as her Mastermind specialist subject, generational differences and why our parents were more worried about appearances than our grandparents, bouncing back from a heart attack and making the BBC front page on your death. This one is a really great listen. Don’t skip it! See RHLSTP live whilst you still can http://richardherring.com/rhlstp SUPPORT THE SHOW! Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman (Retro) - "Ragmags"

#451 Ragmags - Richard has had some disturbing text messages from one of his kids, but he’s not going to help them. His guests are super nerd magic geniuses, Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman. They discuss why Jeremy chose not to appear on stage with the League of Gentlemen, why Andy is non-plussed to be in Star Wars, how the pair met at a summer camp, the Vagina Monologues production at the Arts Theatre led to TWO new theatre shows that have been performed all over the world, why Andy and Jeremy wanted to retain control of the film version of A Ghost Story, the secretive world of the Magic Circle and how they managed to collaborate on writing the fantastically entertaining novel, “The Warlock Effect”. Plus what would it take for them to fellate Keith Allen. Rich and Ally's Craven Newsround Compilation - Richard E Grant the Traitor

29th September 2026 - No Speculation - Rich and Ally cover a story that you won’t have read about it in LSM, some suspicious activity around RAF Fairford. Even if you’ve got wind of it then I don’t think any of your news sources will have come at it from this angle. There will be no speculation in this one. Just cold hard facts based on stuff that we’ve heard from strangers on social media. Plus an on the spot report from… ooops nearly told you. 1st October 2026 - County Fair Merkin - Rich and Ally are back with a new co-host to talk about why being bald is masculine and why we have pubic hair. You won’t get this in the lamestream media. Except in the Guardian. 2nd October 2026 - Richard E Grant the Traitor - Last Newsround of the Week and there have been some changes in the line-up. Let us know who you’d like to present ideally. The team talk about something you won’t see in the LSM, the new series of Traitors and the stupidity of one of Rich’s sworn enemies. Will Richard (Herring) ever get his revenge. It’s doubtful. Certainly not right now. Would you rather be on Traitors of Craven Newsround?
