AA 's entry into Hollywood, The Lost Weekend, The Days of Wine and Roses
Marty Mann, the first successful woman in AA already was living a life of the rich and famous . Marty was in the marketing and adversting business and... her lover , Priscilla, worked at Vogue. Many connections were made for Marty and Bill Wilson through this high society , wealthy hook ups. Still, long after they were gone, Hollywood was still pushing AA - After 80 years of AA- non stop propaganda there are some 95 % of those who go who fail, die or kill themsleves by AA standards. Where did all the love and light go ? Why is AA still the only answer in Hollywood movies and TV shows? Why do they still push AA so hard. Good question. Lets find out. There is a long list of movies that are straight up propaganda. The Lost Weekend, The Days of Wine and Roses, Flight with Denzel Washington, A Star is Born, Euphoria, Mom on CBS, When a Man Loves a Woman, Everything Must Go with Will Ferrell, The Way Back, 28 Days , Crazy Heart, Clean and Sober, A Million Little Pieces, One Little Pill, The 13th Step.

A Rant to Herself
Yeah disjointed rubbish, a child could do better
Unbelievable
This self-confessed non-alcoholic lives, eats and breathes hatred for a method of recovery from alcoholism. With various outlandish claims and unsubstantiated drivel, this podcast is a vehicle for pathetically trying to whip up negativity towards AA. Shame on you Monica Richardson!
Ignore the critics, Monica, and keep up the good work.
I quit AA after many years when I become disillusioned with the programme and the meetings and couldn't work out why. This podcast along with some other key blogs and websites on the subject were very helpful in my deprogramming process. Everyone's so emotionally invested in the subject it's hard to find balanced reporting, and while Monica is clearly very anti-AA she's also someone with some very strong points to make. Yes, this is a home made podcast. Yes, some of the callers can be a bit fruity. Get over it. Let's be a little bit more honest and a little more open-minded here. AA is 1930s mental health technology that may be an effective way of separating the drunk from their booze, but for many people (myself included) it is not a good route to long term real world wellness. Not only that but AA's massive success and uncritical media endorsement now obscures more accessible, more effective, and more up-to-date means of recovery such as The Sinclair Method, SMART Recovery and LifeRing - to name but three. Furthermore, it now transpires that a lot of what AA's founders thought to be self-evident is just plain wrong. One example is that alcoholism is not a black-and-white, on-and-off condition. It's a continuum of different behaviours shaped by context. There is no "invisible line" to cross. Another is that it's maybe not such a great idea to bring vulnerable people together in a supposedly therapeutic environment without any form of safeguarding. Perhaps most importantly, I'm sorry to say, is that AA's "Higher Power" thesis now seems almost entirely indefensible. Read Richard Dawkins if you don't believe me. I dare you. Truth is that your all-important sense of "spirituality" is no more real than mine was. It's just a mind game, and we should be able to do better in the 21st century. We deserve "real world" recovery, something that goes beyond merely substituting one form of dependence and denial with another. Monica is part of a small but growing online group of bloggers, podcasters and film-makers trying to make a difference in the new age of internet transparency. Ten years from now this show will be recognised for the pioneer broadcasting that it truly is. Ignore the critics, and keep up the good work. Jon S, England
