On this international episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down podcast, Tom welcomes the absolutely fabulous Emily to the airwaves! Wahoo! Together, they chat about Bonsai, Infiltraitors, and Crash Octopus - a trio of much-hyped games that are all pretty damn good!

Please do show your appreciation for Emily in the comments on the site! She was SO nervous about appearing on the pod, and I think she absolutely bossed it.

    #233 - The Essen Special!

On this jam-packed episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down Podcast, Tom and Quinns are going through all the games that Tom brought back from Essen! This doesn’t include the whole host of eurogames he played whilst there, which might even be a separate podcast all by itself! Goodness! We also have time for a very sneaky mention of Crystallo’s latest expansions, and a fair portion of semi-irrelevant chat. Just what the doctor ordered!

Thanks for bearing with us during that brief podcast pause - we’ll be back to the regular schedule from now on!

Enjoyable, informative and recommended!

Not sure why it took me so long to stumble across this podcast as I have been a big fan of the video series. The podcast translates well and I have enjoyed returning back to the earlier eps and listening to the evolution of the podcast. Just about started on 2014 episodes and felt I needed to review. Thanks chaps - a great podcast!

Quite possibly the greatest podcast of all time

That’s not entirely correct, but the team’s expert coverage of all things board games definitely is. This show (along with the excellent YouTube channel) have helped steer us in the right direction re tabletop purchases for years.

Irresponsible

I find the stance "we want more people to play games" is not good enough. People won't get into the hobby if all you recommend are games that last two plays.

They need to cover good games and for that they need to play them more than once or even 5 times.

-----
I think this wasn't as apparent initially because when they started out they would defer to classics to steer their judgement. But I think with them around for longer Knizia would be overlooked by them as dry.

This is based on them ignoring Spirit Island, any of Lang's games, Lacerda's games. And not rediscovering them until recently (apart from Lang).

===
Also if I drew a parallel with covering video games you need to pay through at least half of the game. You can get distracted on "ooh shiny" but it will wear off quickly. So why not test that with boardgames?

For example: it's like playing the first 2 hours of God of war [insert any game] and declaring it the best game ever - that would never fly. (Even when it is actually a good game)

-----
So if you say nemesis is good - this will steer the industry towards that. If you ignore something like spirit Island - it will kill off the game in 95% is the cases.

And this rant is here because they have such a large spot in the hobby. They need to be better.

Ps: I think Tom is a change towards this actually.
