Semiglutides in Sobriety: A New Frontier in Addiction Recovery?

In this week’s episode of Recovery in the Middle Ages, we delve into the groundbreaking realm of semiglutide medications, such as Ozempic, and their emerging role in addiction treatment. As science advances, so does our understanding of how these drugs not only aid in weight loss, but also show promise in the realm of addiction recovery. We'll explore the current scientific insights on semiglutides' effects on the brain and body, specifically their potential to alter the brain's reward pathways and reduce the dopamine-driven pleasure associated with addictive behaviors.

We also discuss Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) more broadly, navigating the complexities and controversies surrounding MAT in the recovery community, touching on the balance between medication use and traditional recovery methods.

These two are great hosts, really enjoy their chat and insights into recovery. Despite their charade as a pair of goofballs they’re actually worth a good listen. I’ve found them super helpful and their content consistent *like a mature cheddar cheese melted on toast (*great anytime of the day) I listen from the UK, so it’s all relevant, the online fb group is welcoming, stay strong, never give up, giving up, PNP, PMA. Keep up the good fight guys x JJX.

Strange

Found their attitude off putting, kept interrupting guest, going off on a tangent
About how good drugs were.
Not for me had to turn it off.
I can laugh at my addiction but felt like they were promoting drugs

Shug the Mug ,

Thank You

I am a middle aged man and your podcast speaks directly to me. I’m British, I’ve got teenage children, I’m a lawyer and I’ve stopped drinking. This is nearest I get to a formal recovery programme and I find your honest chats with each other helpful in a way you cannot probably believe. It’s real and it’s massively helpful. Thank you.
