Stand and Deliver podcast episode 25 Arna Spek + Iszi Lawrence

A two guest bumper edition of the podcast. With the comedy scene on hold, we catch up with comic, Radio 4 history boffin and author Iszi Lawrence. We find out to see how she is managing to keep active during lockdown.

Our second guest is Arna Spek. Originally from the Netherlands, Arna makes dry, self-deprecating observations about London life and odd British behaviour from the perspective of a confused and bumbling outsider.

Arna talks about: starting out at school review shows in the Netherlands, Studying comedy at Kent University, can comedy be taught?, performing in Dutch to an English speaking audience, forgetting your jokes, working in a museum, getting a harsh review, how comedy is different in the Netherlands, juggling standup and having a child + lots more.

Rhodders and Steve talk about: meeting at Reading107 FM, how doing his first standup show lead him towards radio, why he decided to give standup anther go, why radio presents always think they are funny, if there are transferable skills between radio to standup, leaning to control the fear that comes with standup, the state of UK local radio, getting out of full-time radio at the right time, Why Steve's 2019 Fringe show "Better Then" was less news related then his previous shows, The Mash Report, if it harder to do satire with today's political climate, being accused of bias, BBC impartiality, how it feels going from 20min sets in a club to 60min shows at the Fringe.

We also hear Rhodders catch up with Josh Massen at the Fringe.

Tubcast podcast ,

Smashy But also nicey

Absolutely love this Podcast. Rodders has a fantastic interview technique. Reminds me of a radio Dj with less sound effects. Some fantastic guests. Very funny stuff. Getting a behind the scenes look at comedy. I adore when Rodders goes on a random surrealist adventure. Great great stuff

This a great podcast and it is also nice to know what comedy is going on in the Berkshire area. Comedy fans particularly those based in Reading should give it a listen!
