Mother Pearl and the Nuclear Disaster (Sci-Fi Horror) - Story #16

Mother Pearl and the Nuclear Disaster (Sci-Fi Horror) - Story #16

A love letter to Gojira, a post-Cold War parable, a tale of confinement, escape, and approaching catastrophe. Mother Pearl and the Nuclear Disaster is all of these things and more. It is the story of a child born into nuclear winter, a community obsessed with a giant pearl, a president with a woefully short memory, and a world entirely unprepared for the end.

Upstairs neighbours are - let's face it - a nuisance, an anomaly, the bane of all apartment blocks. But when an urban fox moves into the flat upstairs in a crumbling Glasgow tenement, the residents face their most unruly neighbour yet. A Scottish folktale for modern times; a whimsical look at life as a 21st century city dweller.

A painting to which the old lady feels drawn, and which might just hold the key to the secret art of floating.

Love these!

This is one of my favourite podcasts, and I’m always excited to see new episodes! Really enjoy your style, the production, the concept, and the stories themselves!

Superb!

Really enjoyed these so far. I’m a fantasy fan so ‘The Imam and His Pirates’, ‘Ludmila and the Duckling’ and ‘Caveworm’ in particular were up my street. Generally with stories I tend to enjoy the sort of descriptive stuff, character backstory, world building etc. more than the main plot, that’s what really provides the sense of escape for me, and I think you’ve nailed that. Particularly given these are short stories where you’re constrained on words. Strong effort with the voice acting too, definitely adds to it. Looking forward to the next one 🙌

Immersive, authentic, rich, exciting.

Just listened to episode one! The ambience is super immersing straight off the bat, especially when the tavern sounds faded for that part of the dialogue. So much suspense from when the slave called her 'miss' right to the end. A slow building suspense though! And the very end few sentences, ooft!

Story #4 is also immersive. It makes the subject of Communist China accessible and exciting. The time travel aspect was handled well, the rules felt original, and the key! Damn. It was thought provoking and you’re planted in the same room as the protagonist, a very vivid experience.
