Ep 67. Eva Zuckerman: Co-Founder + Creative Director Of Eva Fehren

When Opposites Attract. Fine jewelry designer and fine artist Eva Zuckerman’s aesthetic is grounded in black with neutrals, but she grew up in a colorful life. She was born and raised in New York’s West Village and in Switzerland where her mother is from. And when it came to her schooling, it was a mix of uptown (The Dalton School) and downtown (Cooper Union). And then of course there’s the entrepreneurial and artful influence of her father and grandfather, who quite literally invented what is known as the temporary tattoo. Eva loves the juxtaposition of tough meets tender, and you can see this in her Eva Fehren Fine Jewelry Collection, and in all of her work as an artist. The way she uses materials and her feminine yet sleek design aesthetic has paved the way for others. For Eva, industrial, architectural, and geometric elements give way to sharp edges, clean lines, and delicate details. On this podcast we discuss the day when jewelry came into the picture for the fine-arts trained creative. We discuss how her painting, home decor, furniture, and jewelry design combine to fulfill her creatively. We talk about her famous and highly coveted X ring coming onto the scene, and the copycats that followed. We discuss her custom work and making one-of-a-kind pieces, and her engagement collection. We asked her all about taking part in the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. We got into how she gets her best ideas of course and where she puts them down. We discuss her connection to drawing and how she’s creative in ways outside of her work. We talk about what she’s learned going on ten years of her business and creating a brand that’s distinct. One in a rare few of entirely original creators and inventors of style, Story + Rain Founder + EIC Tamara has known Eva since the day her collection officially launched to the press, so she took a minute to catch up with her about her style-go to’s and favorites now that she’s a new mother, some of which you can discover and shop here:

Ep 66. Josie Maran: Founder Of Josie Maran Beauty + Clean Beauty Pioneer

Ep 66. Josie Maran: Founder Of Josie Maran Beauty + Clean Beauty Pioneer

The Unassuming Powerhouse. Josie Maran is a beauty barrier breaker. In 2007 she was a pioneer of the clean beauty movement when she decided to launch her line of chic-ological skincare and cosmetics. The longtime model (a Guess? girl, a video vixen, cover star, to name a few)who started in the business at age 12 found herself in many top makeup artists’ chairs, as you would imagine, and would use that time to ask questions. Questions about products and ingredients. Her mother’s Chronic Fatigue Syndrome had the family using organic and clean products always, so it was only natural that she’d have an interest in all the products she came into contact with as a model. A born and bred seeker, Josie grew up in Northern California with a deeply creative mother and a father who was an entrepreneur. Josie always felt she was destined for big things. After a fateful party in the south of France, she went on a mission to find argan oil and build her own beauty brand. When she got a call from the Head Of Oncology at Cedars Sinai and was told that two of his patients dealing with radiation dermatitis were using her Argan Oil and he’d never seen such healing, well, she had made it. Today, Josie Maran Cosmetics, based in argan oil that essentially mimics skin’s own properties, is booming, and a luxury, clean, go-to brand at stores like Sephora and on QVC. On this podcast, we talk about her adventure- filled childhood, her modeling days, her dramatic introduction in the South of France to the organic oil that would change her life and her career, growing a business, her firm connection to sustainability, how she lives a clean lifestyle, we do a deep dive into her brand’s products and more, and talk about favorite things that you can discover and shop here:

Ep 65. Cristina Ehrlich: Celebrity Wardrobe Stylist

Red Carpet Rainmaker. If you’ve got a mental picture of the Hollywood red carpet, you’re most likely visualizing outfits created by stylist Cristina Ehrlich. The two are synonymous. On this podcast Cristina describes growing up surrounded by glamour and beauty living in New York, Bel Air, and Europe. Her Italian mother was an interior designer who dressed, lived, and entertained well, and at an early age Cristina was to develop her meticulous, well-trained eye and appreciation for style. She specifically recalls being influenced by a Helmut Newton book of nudes that held court on the family coffee table. Cristina started out as a highly trained dancer, that turned to a short stint as an actor, and it was then that she decided to make the shift from performer to creator. This is an in-depth conversation with one of the world’s leading tastemakers in fashion. We discuss the realities of what it means to be a “celebrity” stylist, what it takes to work in the industry, and how she got her start. She shares details about how no two clients have the same needs, and her career-changing work with Penelope Cruz. We discuss the state of the red carpet today and how, currently, people have changed the way they dress. We discuss the most important and impactful clients, looks, and jobs of her career, and the high stakes and pressure involved. We talk about what’s fulfilling her creatively now, #CELoves, her recipe for a successful red carpet look, how her personal style has changed, the style icon she’s influenced by, and her inspirations and loves from brands to books to belts and more, some of which you can discover and shop here:

Ep. 64. Hunter McGrady: Model, Body Positivity Activist, Designer , + Social Media Influencer

Ep. 64. Hunter McGrady: Model, Body Positivity Activist, Designer , + Social Media Influencer

Model Behavior. Hunter McGrady is a third-generation model who is killing it…and she’s doing it with kindness and compassion. We were witness to her beautiful vibes during her photo shoot for Story + Rain. One of Hunter’s missions is to help nurture women of all body types. The fresh-faced blonde grew up in the mountains of Malibu and has Icelandic roots. Her mother was personally mentored by modeling industry icon Wilhelmina Cooper. Currently a size 18, Hunter is the curviest model to be featured in Sports Illustrated’s famed Swimsuit Issue, for four years and counting. Her size has changed over the years, and she embraces it. An impressive accomplishment for someone under 30, last year she released her size-inclusive line for QVC. Recently married, Hunter has worked with brands like The Knot to help dispel the common practice of a woman shedding weight for her wedding day. A social media influencer and a brand ambassador, Hunter works with big brands like Olay, Revlon, and Amazon. During our talk we ask Hunter about how her mother prepared her for the business. We discuss the pivotal moment that caused her to take a break, when she was turned away from a photo shoot because of her size. We also discuss her tried and true practice of daily affirmations, and her relationship with anxiety and depression. We asked her about the details of her experience with and the inner workings of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. We get into the treatment that "plus" and curve models receive in the industry, and how she’s navigated that landscape. We needed to get the scoop on how she met her husband on Snapchat. You’ll hear all about her line and her work with QVC. Hunter discusses what it’s like being a brand ambassador, and how she became a social media influencer. We tapped her for the items she loves, the reasons why, and you can shop some of them here:

Ep.63: Deirdre Featherstone: Master Platinumsmith + Founder + CEO of Featherstone Fine Jewelry

Born To Create. “Playful Defiance” is how one of fine jewelry and award winning platinumsmith Deirdre Featherstone’s beloved clients describes the sensibility of her collection. The one-time antiques auctioneer, since childhood, has been building things and grew up in a family who did the same. Her father would often disappear to the store for a gallon of milk, and come back with a car for fixing. With a deep understanding of materials and value culled during her time in antiques, and her homegrown skill for working with her hands, Deirdre turned her talents to jewelry design after being stopped on the street by a prospective customer who admired the pieces she was wearing that she’d made for herself. With a private atelier in Manhattan and a curated collection exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, clients come to Featherstone Design for her use of superior color gemstones and the detailed way in which her pieces function. On this podcast we talk about the intimate relationships Deirdre has with both her materials and her customers, a lifetime of working with her hands, the focus she’s placed on creating convertible pieces, how she combines luxe quality with a sense of humor, her sources of inspiration including the unique perspective her daughter brings, a deep dive into gemstones and platinum---and more.
