Is there a more topical industry than Energy today with prices and availability at the forefront of global populations? This week we are delighted to welcome Don Sylvest, former Security Operations Manager at ExxonMobil to ask:
Why should EP operators start a career in energy?
What types of activism are an increasing concern for protectors?
What differences should protectors be aware of when comparing subsets of the energy sector, from upstream to downstream and from travel risk to transmission?
What evolving threats are facing the energy sector more than others?
To what extent is insider threat a challenge for today's protector in the energy sector?
Don started his law enforcement career at the age of 19 as a game warden in south Louisiana. He relocated to Texas in the mid-80s and entered law enforcement as a patrol officer. 20 plus years later Don retired as a Lieutenant over criminal investigations.
Don moved to Dallas in 2000 and started a career in corporate security. In 2003 Don received his CPP certification. In 2005 while working as security manager for a high-net-worth family Don was approached by ExxonMobil to submit his resume for an executive protection specialist position for the soon to be Chairman/CEO of EM. Since 2005 Don has traveled to over 30 countries and all 50 states providing security to senior executives. Don was also tasked with managing the security driver training program. He provided hands on management of the program in numerous high threat countries. During his tenure he also coordinated security for high profile events to include annual shareholder meetings, Board committee meetings and major sporting events. Before retiring from EM Don was responsible for daily operation management of security at the EM Houston campus. Don spends his time now consulting with other corporations security teams on executive protection and other security related matters.
