That Nurse Who Asks Questions

Jenna Platt

Agree with me or your are wrong!! What absolute nonsense! Hi my name is Jenna and I get things wrong. I am happy with that position of learning through uncertainty, thinking out loud, speaking with a variety of people and opinions, messy action, listening and asking questions. I am in the very early stages of my podcast and have learned a huge amount already. After the contraversy and censorship of 2020 and beyond I am on a journey of unlearning, learning and forming educated opinions not simply repeating what I have heard.

#TNWAQ11 Gareth Wyn Jones. What this country needs is a farming revolution. #TNWAQ

What this country needs is a farming revolution. The UK needs to safeguard farmers because they play a vital role in producing food for the country and supporting the economy. Blaming them for environmental pollution is unjust, as many farmers have implemented sustainable practices and are working to reduce their impact on the environment. Additionally, many of the environmental problems facing the farming industry, such as climate change, are caused by factors outside of their control. By protecting and supporting farmers, the government can ensure a stable food supply and help mitigate the effects of environmental pollution. In this episode, I speak with Gareth Wyn Jones, a farmer from North Wales, on why the country needs to invest more in agriculture. Gareth shares what he often talks about on Twitter, the disconnection between people and food, why livestock is now being blamed for the environment, and the importance of local, seasonal, and regenerative agriculture. He also talks about the amount of food going to waste in the country, the benefits of real food, and the effects of lifestyle on our health and agriculture.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. ⬇️ Timestamps  [01:22] Gareth Wyn’s background information  [03:14] What Gareth often shares on Twitter  [04:42] The disconnection between people and food  [08:27] The vegan diet  [11:17] Why is livestock now getting blamed for the environment?  [13:48] The importance of local, seasonal, and regenerative agriculture  [20:42] The effects of supermarkets on farmers  [22:00] The amount of food going to waste in the country  [25:34] The benefits of real food  [37:45] The effects of lifestyle on our health and agriculture  [40:42] The government helping farmers retire early  [45:06] What people are looking forward to in farming  [50:00] How people can start learning about farming  [54:50] How we can use the materials on our doorstep to add value to what we have got  Notable quotes:  ● “It is not about eating meat. #TNWAQ10 - Amy Jones . Are you smart enough to home educate your children? #TNWAQ

Are You Smart Enough To Home Educate Your Children? Home education, also known as homeschooling, is a popular alternative to traditional schooling for many families. One of the biggest advantages of home education is that it allows parents to tailor their children's education to their individual needs and abilities. This can result in a more personalized and effective learning experience, as children can work at their own pace and focus on subjects they are most interested in.    Additionally, home education allows for a more flexible schedule, which can be especially beneficial for children with special needs who may have difficulty attending a traditional school setting. In this episode, we are joined by Amy Jones, a teacher who home-educates his two boys. Amy shares why she decided to home-educate her children, the structure of qualifications in home education, and the experience of starting home education. She also talks about the effects of targets in schools, how the system is failing children with special needs, and the lessons she has learned from home education. Don’t miss a thing on this. Children who learn to read later in an unschooling environment don’t fail.” ●       “The trouble in many schools now, especially secondary, is children are disengaged.” ●       “If you are trying to teach a child something and they are not ready, then they won’t learn.” ●       “Some children need different support, which is why schools cannot work for everyone. If we try and fit children in those boxes, then their mental health is going to struggle.”   Correction at moments [25:31] and [25:42] Amy states the percentage as 28% but she corrected this after as being 20%.  Connect with Amy Jones: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fun_learning_resource/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@homeedamy 📱Facebook 🐦Twitter 📸Instagram 💻Website

#TNWAQ9 - James Esses . What is the cost of free speech, debate, being a voice for children? #TNWAQ

Gender ideology refers to the belief that gender is not solely determined by biology but rather is a social construct that can be chosen or expressed in various ways. This perspective has led to increased acceptance and visibility of transgender and non-binary individuals, but it also has sparked debate and controversy. Some argue that gender ideology undermines traditional gender roles and norms, while others claim that it expands opportunities for children and gives them more freedom to express themselves. Regardless, it has had significant impacts on children, as they feel pressure to conform to certain gender stereotypes or question their own gender identity in a confusing or difficult way.  In this episode, I am joined by James Esses, an advocate of gender ideology and its impacts on children. He is also a former psychotherapist trainee who was expelled because of advocating for the effects of gender ideology. James shares his experience with gender ideology, the best way to tackle gender ideology, and why children are caught up in gender ideology. He also talks about the effects of gender-affirming surgery.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. ⬇️  Timestamps  [00:24] James Esses’s background information  [01:18] James’s experience with gender ideology and how his campaign started  [05:37] The best way of tackling gender ideology [12:13] The effects of gender affirmation surgery  [16:05] The cruel narrative that we are giving to our children  [16:45] Why children are caught up in gender ideology  [19:07] The business part of puberty blockers  [22:03] James’s plans for his campaign  [29:33] The impact that James has had on people since starting his campaign  [36:12] The effects of gender-neutral on children  Notable quotes:  ● “Gender dysphoria is a mental health condition.”  ● “The cruel narrative we are giving to children is that the way to be your true self is fundamentally changing yourself.”  ● “We should be looking to help change people’s minds and not their bodies if they are feeling discomfort. “  ● “The message of, you can be whatever you want to be irrespective of what anyone else thinks even if it is biologically untrue, is a very cruel message.”  ● “We are all a blend of different traits and characteristics. There are more feminine men and more masculine girls, and nothing is wrong with that. Osteopaths and chiropractors are healthcare practitioners focusing on the musculoskeletal system, including the bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Both can help to alleviate pain, improve mobility and flexibility, and promote overall wellness. Osteopaths use manual techniques such as manipulation, stretching, and massage to help the body heal itself, while chiropractors primarily use adjustments to realign the spine and other joints. Both types of practitioners may also guide exercise, posture, and lifestyle changes that can help prevent future pain or injury.  Osteopaths and Chiropractors offer a holistic approach to healthcare and can benefit people with chronic pain, sports injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions. #TNWAQ7 - Leilani Dowding. Do people realise how much social media manipulates them? - #TNWAQ

Imagine people saying to you - yeah but you were a teenager 20 years ago, you were a student 20 years ago, you didn't have children 20 years ago, you were fill in the blanks. Leilani was a page 3 model 20 years ago and for some reason today many people will use that to discredit her views today. Make it make sense. Social media manipulates people by using algorithms and targeted advertising to present them with content that aligns with their interests and biases, creating a filter bubble that limits their exposure to diverse perspectives and information. Additionally, social media platforms use psychological tactics such as notifications and likes to create a sense of validation and addiction, leading users to spend more time on the platform and become increasingly reliant on it for information and social connection. This manipulation can also lead to the spread of false information and the erosion of privacy.  In this episode, I speak with Leilani Dowding, a former model, on the effects of social media on people’s lives. Leilani shares how she started her modeling career, how social media is affecting the modeling industry today, and tips to get past social media criticism. Leilani also talks about the difference between dating online and in person, and the negative effects of social media.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. ⬇️  Timestamps  [00:30] Leilani Dowding’s background information  [03:24] Leilani’s modeling career  [08:16] How social media started to get bigger  [11:48] Are there any regrets about Leilani’s modeling career?  [14:10] Tips to get past the criticism of social media  [19:09] The amount of time Leilani spends on the phone and social media  [27:09] The Facebook research on emotional contagion  [29:44] The book: The Cyber Effect  [36:12] The gender stereotypes on social media  [40:39] The difference between makeups filters  [46:05] The expectation of sex from the book: The Cyber Effect  [48:39] The difference between dating online and in person  [56:39] The negative effects of social media  [01:02:49] The interruptions of sleep by social media  [01:06:09] How social media encourages self-harm  [01:13:48] The headline on Leilani accusing fat people for making lockdown long  [01:24:43] Putting healthy food in your body  Notable quotes:  ● “The big problem now is that you can get attacked on all these different forms of social media no matter what you do.”  ● “Social media is not the problem. It’s how people use social media and the habits they get into that are bad.”  ● “Be aware of your surroundings but work with what you got.”  ● “Sometimes people just don’t enjoy the moment because they are too busy trying to take a picture of it.”  ● “It is easy to blame someone and tell someone what to do and not do anything about it yourself.”  Follow Leilani Dowding On Socials  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/leilanidowdi...  Twitter: https://twitter.com/LeilaniDowding  Follow Me On Socials  🔔 Subscribe: https://bit.ly/YoTusub  📝Blog - CS  🎧Podcast - https://bit.ly/PCfYT  📱Facebook - https://bit.ly/FBfYT  🐦Twitter: https://bit.ly/TWITfYT  📸Instagram: https://bit.ly/IGfYT  💻Website: https://bit.ly/WwWfYT  #ThatNurseWhoAsksQuestions #HopInHope #UKPodcast #PodcastUK #MoralRebel  Intro/Outro Timelapse Film Credit - https://www.oraclefilms.com/

  6. #TNWAQ6 - Rebekah Whitaker. Self-awareness a curse or a blessing?

    21/01/2023

    #TNWAQ6 - Rebekah Whitaker. Self-awareness a curse or a blessing?

Is self-awareness a curse or a blessing?  Rebekah and I discuss how Transactional analysis has impacted our relationships and the way we communicate. Transactional analysis is the psychological theory based on social engagement or ‘transactions’ which are analysed from the origin ego state. Self-awareness can be both a curse and a blessing depending on how it is perceived and utilized. On one hand, self-awareness can lead to negative self-criticism and a lack of self-confidence. On the other hand, self-awareness can lead to personal growth and an understanding of one's own thoughts and behaviours. Transactional analysis can help with this by providing tools to understand and analyze one's own thoughts and behaviours, as well as the thoughts and behaviours of others. This can lead to increased self-awareness, which can ultimately be used to improve communication and relationships with others and make positive changes in one's own life.  In this episode, I speak with Rebekah Whitaker, a leadership coach and the host of In Pursue of The Better You podcast. Rebekah talks about how we met, the meaning of transactional analysis, how transactional analysis is transformative in people’s lives and why she loves coaching and transactional analysis. She also shares her journey to self-awareness and the power of self-awareness in people’s lives. #TNWAQ4 - Kristen Nagle - Canadian Frontline Nurses. What does a leader look like? #TNWAQ

What does a leader look like? Are they made or do they find themselves by accident? A leader guides and directs a group towards a common goal or vision. They possess qualities such as strong communication skills, the ability to inspire and motivate others, strategic thinking, and the ability to make difficult decisions. They also demonstrate integrity, authenticity, and a clear sense of purpose. A leader also serves as a role model and sets an example for others to follow. They are able to build trust and respect among their team members and create a positive and productive work environment. They also can adapt to change and handle pressure. In this episode, I speak with Kristen Nagle, the Co-Founder of Canadian Frontline Nurses, a proud advocate of medical freedom. Kristen talks about her experience as a leader, what they are doing with Canadian Frontline Nurses, the three things that the CFN were accused of affecting with the protests and why people struggle to use their judgement and lived experiences because of social media. 9. #TNWAQ3 - Lorna Fyffe. Do we judge, allow people to move forwards or just keep them stuck? #TNWAQ

    21/01/2023

#TNWAQ3 - Lorna Fyffe. Do we judge, allow people to move forwards or just keep them stuck? #TNWAQ

We say that we don’t judge. We say that people deserve a second chance. We say that we don’t stereotype. Would you have expected Lornas Story? Could you have called it by looking at her? As nurses we were told don’t judge based on appearance, we have no idea what is going on inside with just a glance. Lorna: - shares her story of judgement as she reflects on her identity - discusses the difficulties that services face and how that impacts her as an individual who uses the service. - explains how her key worker would like to do more but due to funding, time, training etc there are limitations. - did not discuss it in the podcast but afterwards did ask me to make a note of how she has never felt judged not once by her tissue viability team who help her with her wound on her leg. My judgement of Lorna is based on the here and now of what I can see in front of me. I am not suggesting that we allow those who are using illegal drugs to teach children however I do believe that we need to work with the here and now and have open and honest conversations with clear boundaries and safeguards. If not then as a society we need to say the quiet bit out loud – make a mistake equals zero forgiveness. Guilty by association was something I reflected on after recording this podcast. During my walk I was very aware that I would listen to anyone regardless of appearance (designer wear to homeless individuals) and drug intake. When people make judgements does that come from experience or ignorance or both? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. ⬇️ Timestamps [00:24] Lorna Fyffe’s background information [00:48] How Lorna and I met [06:04] The discrimination in the NHS when you present yourself as a drug addict [13:30] Person-centered care [17:33] The reaction of the parent in school after realising that Lorna is an addict [21:55] How Lorna got into drug addiction [26:33] The effects of uncaring nurses on addicts [28:23] Do we need to have conversations on addiction and medication? #TNWAQ2 - Rob Platt. Married after 12 days?! #TNWAQ

What was the best apology you ever received? Was it so good you married them? After 3 years apart we got married in Vegas 12 days after Rob apologised to me ..... and he wanted to take me out for a coffee. Not a chance! A biiger apology was needed. So we are together, apart, together, apart, together and then hardly with each other - this is not the usual direction of a rom com but this is our story. Mr and Mrs Platt. We went to primary school and high school together in Crewe, Cheshire but we did not get together until we met back in Nantwich, Cheshire when I was 25 and Rob was 24. We had headed home for Christmas. He was living in Peterborough ... no idea of the county help me out in the comments and I was living in Edinburgh, Midlothian (I hope I have got that correct). Any ways we got together, renovated a house and started a business then had a messy break up . I will let you listen to how we got back together and no more spoilers from me. Fast forward after less than 3 months married Rob was dropping me off at Manchester (I am bored of counties now), Manchester airport with a backpack that weight almost half my (then) body weigth at 5 stone! Yes I was an idiot and that is another story. So I was heading off with my huge backpack with a one way ticket to India and not really having a clue what I was going to do for the next 5 months. Let me add this was March 2020, yup the start of the pandemic ... only a fool would go globe trotting. Rob and I share our story of getting me back to the UK after only 3 week in India. Then after a number of broken promises from the UK Govenment that resembled a toxic relationship I told Rob I was walking 151 miles from Stoke on Trent to London - no training - no prep ... only an idiot would attempt that I hear you say ..... are you noticing a theme? In my first podcast I make people aware of my story and this is (almost 30%) Rob telling his version and me 'let me have the limelight Jen' speaking for him for 70%. I am obviously mocking myself .... but it's half true. Lockdown wasn't all bad. I noticed there was a guilt when people would share with me how much it had helped them. Rob and I had a great lockdown - newly weds with big plans for home, work, travel ... the future. We did not struggle to pay our mortgage and recognised our fortunate position of liking one another while relationships around us struggled. We were OK but for many as time went on we realised the huge negative impact lockdowns were having and that this was not being spoken about in the mainstream media ... In fact if you dared to say it out loud you were very quickly shut down. We were OK yet we started an unexpected journey that put us in the 'not OK' position as we came up against a lot of negativity from those close to us and complete strangers. *Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.* ⬇️ *Timestamps* [00:27] Rob Platt’s background information [01:44] How Rob and I got married [11:29] Why Rob said no to the idea of climbing the wall [13:20] The challenges I faced traveling back from India [18:43] The effects of the pandemic on our business [23:00] The benefits of the lockdown [23:33] Our first protest in Manchester [32:39] The impacts of the protest on Rob Platt [38:08] One of the most frustrating things people would say to me during the walks [47:37] The things that strengthen us during the hard times [50:35] How Rob afford Jenna to walk [55:11] What happened with Divine? [01:00:17] What is it like to be married to a strong woman? [01:04:00] How long have you been doing BBJ? *Notable quotes:* ● “Some people did have a good lockdown. They got to spend time with family and friends.” ● “People make excuses for everything all the time.” ● “Many nurses who supported me didn’t want to be seen in the streets with me in case their colleagues saw them.”

#TNWAQ1 - Was I a conspiracy theorist or did I see things differently?

What was 2020/2021 Like for you? Did you agree with your partners, friends, neighbours? Did you have fall outs with strangers in the supermarkets because they were not doing exactly the same as you?  If you are nodding along click🔔 Subscribe.  Make a brew (UK) or a cup of tea (USA) and listen along to my story while you are washing the dishes or driving to work.  If you are still deciding if to commit 50 mins of your time here is a summary of what I did.  Hi my name is Jenna. I walked from Stoke on Trent to London (151 miles in 10 days) to hand deliver a letter to our then Prime Minister Boris Johnson.  While on my walk I was concerned about getting arrested, getting fined, falling unwell and nobody wanting to help me, losing my house, business, friends, family and maybe even driving my husband away with my tenacity to try and make sense of the situation. I made it and needed to post my letter there is an instagram post of me reading it out.  I then realised I was unable to stop there as now I was aware of the devestating impact the Ldowns were having on people. I attended protests and stayed in London for 3 weeks while wearing a sandwhich board 'Nurses Are Scared To Speak Out'.  I had limited space and needed a snappy thought provoking sign to encourge conversation - I was fully aware that not ALL nurses were scared and not all nurses even thought they had something to say but that wouldn't have been quite as catchy.  I handed a letter in to The NMC outlining the braches of the code of conduct that I was aware of and that had been discussed with me by other healthcare professionals. I was so appreciative of those who bravely came to show their support that day in their uniforms knowing it was a risk.  I then walked 69 towns and cities wearing my sandwich board getting verbally attacked on the street, mentions in forums which seem to promote nothing but bullying and negativity, being away from my husband for long periods and having to fear of 1. Have I got this wrong 2. Am I going to lose everything?  Episode 1 includes  - Who I am - What I did (in a bit more detail than ⬆️) - What did I learn  - What comes next If you have got this far into the description hit the play button ▶️.  What to expect from the podcast I have started a podcast to discuss my experiences but also to invite all kinds of people. I will be sharing my journey of mistakes made while starting the podcast and my learnings.  📱Facebook 🐦Twitter 📸Instagram 💻Website

About

Agree with me or your are wrong!! What absolute nonsense! Hi my name is Jenna and I get things wrong. I am happy with that position of learning through uncertainty, thinking out loud, speaking with a variety of people and opinions, messy action, listening and asking questions. I am in the very early stages of my podcast and have learned a huge amount already. After the contraversy and censorship of 2020 and beyond I am on a journey of unlearning, learning and forming educated opinions not simply repeating what I have heard.
