    Take 5 To Relax And Calm Your Mind

    Do you ever struggle with stress, anxiety or an overactive busy mind?

    Coming up in this episode I’m going to share with you how you can quickly and easily re-set your mind, so stay tuned!

    So many of us struggle with overwhelm, stress and a busy mind, I know I often do and so do many of the clients I work with.  One of things I do with my clients is to help them establish strategies to help them find ways of getting into a better state of mind, to help them find a better way of thinking and feeling.

    One of the easiest strategies I share with my clients, that I personally use over the years, is to stop and take 5!

     Take 5 to refocus, reset and relax your mind.

    1.    Stop & take a deep breath

    2.    Look up – find something above your eye level to focus on and take a nice deep breathe in and out

    3.    Stretch out and roll your shoulders and take a nice deep breathe in and out

    4.    Relax your jaw and take a nice deep breathe in and out

    5.    Affirm a word of phrase that describes how you want to feel and take a slow deep comfortable breath in and out!

    It’s a simple and effective way of elevating your thinking, think of it like changing channel on a TV or radio, you are exercising your freedom of choice to change your mindset.

    Taking time to take 5, allows you to get out of your own head, and be mindful and present in the moment, rather than thinking about the past of the future.

    And the more you do it, the easier, the more effective and beneficial it will be for you.

    I encourage you to do it daily, as often as you can, it’s free to do and it’s quick and simple, but please don’t overlook it for it’s simplicity, just take the time to do it and see how beneficial it feels for you.

    You’ve got nothing to lose, but it could potentially have a positive impact for you!

     And remember - What your mind believes you will achieve – so think differently, believe in yourself, take action and achieve the life you want!

    Do you ever find yourself thinking to much, stuck in your own head, or in need of a break from your own busy thoughts?

    Then stay tuned as I share a very simple technique you can use anywhere and anytime!

    One of the simplest yet most effective strategy I’ve shared with my clients over the years is how they can naturally get out of their own head.

    Often, we find ourselves worried, anxious, overthinking or just thinking about things at in appropriate times.

    So, one way I help my clients is to share with them ways in which they can naturally get out of their own head!

    There a few different ways and there’s that wonderful quote that goes “Stop and smell the flowers” and truthfully anything that helps you engage and connect to one of your senses is going to be effective.

    But the one I want to share with you today is to look up more, lift your eyes of the floor and look up more.

    You don’t have to walk around with your head in the air, but just find something, anything to look at, that is above your own eye level.

    If you are indoors, it could be the corner of the room, you could go up to a window and look out.

    Think of it as changing gears, or channels, frequency or playlists, if you don’t like what you’re currently tuned into, then change it!

    When we are in own head, thinking we go into downtime, and we tend to be looking down. If the tasks at hand or your job requires that great, then that’s appropriate.

    But if this isn’t needed, or you want a break from it, look up in and go into uptime and this will help you get out of your own head naturally.

    Stop now and look around, look at something in nature, watch birds, clouds, look at trees, go for a walk and look around and notice all the different things around you.

    You could also combine it with utilising another technique, stop, look up and take some nice comfortable focus breaths in & out.

    Now I’ve brought it to your attention, you’ll probably become aware of how often you find yourself looking down. You’re not going to stop doing it. But once you become aware that you’re looking down, use this as a reminder to look up!

    Think of it like headlights on a car, sometimes you need to have the beam right in front of you and other times its more helpful to lift the beam up more!

    Take the time to lift your eyes off the floor and look up more and notice what a positive difference this makes to your state of mind!

    Remember what your mind believes you will achieve, so think differently, believe in yourself, take action and achieve the life you want!

    Is there something you would like to achieve?

    Is there a positive habit you would like to develop, a positive difference you would like to make in your life?

    Previously I’ve shared with you the benefit of getting clear on what you want, creating a focus and vision for 10 years and then working backwards to your 12 month vision.

    But to really help you get focused and take consist daily action, I’d like you top break it down even more and focus on the next month, or more precisely the next 28 days.

    Set yourself a 28 day focus, or 28 day challenge.

    Ask yourself,  what’s the next step, what can you do in the next 28 days, to move you closer to your goal/vision.

    Now imagine how much progress you can make if you do this every month, set yourself a new focus, a new challenge every month, that will move your closer towards your bigger goals/vision for you life.

    You can even come up with a focus statement, like a mantra/affirmation to symbolize the focus for the month ahead.

    Then picture, imagine and say that to yourself, to help keep you on track, to motivate yourself and give you a lift you when you need it.

    The time will pass anywhere, so decide how best you can make the most of it!

    Don’t wait for the perfect time, make it happen, small changes and improvements every day will make a massive difference to you and your life, so just do it!

    Either you can put it off for one day, or you can make today day one, either way it’s your choice!

    Choose, Commit and just do it!

    It’s your life you can do it, go on make it happen!

    In summary ask yourself the GEL questions;

    What am I grateful for?

    What Have I Enjoyed?

    What have I Learnt?

    Celebrate your wins, take the lessons, learning and discoveries from the past year into your plans for the new year ahead.

    Focus on Your Vision for the Next 12 months.

    Now it’s time to focus on your intentions, plans and aspirations for the new year ahead.

    The truth is most people spend too much time thinking about what they don’t want, that they don’t given enough focus and attention to what they do want.

    So, I’d like to create your vision for the next 12 months and even the next decade. If you look back in the next 10 years, what do you want to have achieved, enjoyed and experienced?

    Once you have done that, then look at the next 12 months and decide what you want to accomplish in the next 12 months that will move you closer to your 10 year vision.

    Once you have some clarity on what you want, I’d also like you to think about why you want these things. Your why is like your emotional fuel/charge to make it happen.

    Our resistance to doing and achieving anything, always because of lack of clarity, how can you achieve your best year yet, if you don’t know what that would look like for you.

    It’s often said we get more of what we think about, so allow yourself some time to think picture and imagine about the things you actually want.

    So, allow yourself some time to get clear on what do you want to enjoy, experience and achieve in the next 12 months, Maybe break it down into the next 3 months, 6 months, 9 months & then 12 months.

    Your action for today is to ask yourself, how best can I make the next 12 months my best year yet?

    Then Create your do list of the top 5 things you want to achieve and then focus on doing the actions that will help make it happen!

    Whether you’re watching this in early January or any other time of year, if you are ready to make a change, you can make it happen regardless of what the date is.

    Your End Of Year Review - End Of Year Questions To Ask Yourself

    Do this before you set your goals for the new year a head.

    Your end of year review to help you achieve your best year yet.

    As you reach the end of the year and the end of a decade, it’s a wonderful opportunity to have a debrief with yourself and reflect on the 12 months just past.

    In this episode I share with you how you can use the lessons, learnings from the past, to help you prepare and get yourself

    It’s that time of year, as we reach the end of the calendar that we often start to look at the year ahead. But before you do, I’d like you to stop and reflect upon the lessons, learning and discoveries from the 12 months & the decade that’s just passed.

    Too often we focus too much on what we didn’t do, or what didn’t go so well.

    So, I’d like you to look back with on your highlights and to help you, I have 3 questions I want you to ask yourself to help take the lessons, learnings and discoveries from this year, into the brand new year, ready to help you have your best year yet!

    You may want to get a journal, or at least a pen and paper, as you allow yourself to have a debrief with yourself on the year just past.

    Firstly – What am I grateful for?

    In the year just gone, what are you truly grateful for?

    Secondly - what have you enjoyed?

    What are your happy memories from the past year?

    If you keep a regular journal, or take lots of photos, maybe you could look back through them and help remind you of the events and experiences you have enjoyed this year.

    Thirdly – What have you learnt?

    What have your learnt from the year’s experiences?

    What have you learnt about yourself?

    If you don’t acknowledge these areas, you will never develop and grow.

    These questions help, because we get more of what we focus on, and even the last questions enable you to highlight and focus on the areas you can improve.

    So, allow yourself time to focus and reflect on the year just gone, before you turn your attentions towards getting ready for the next 12 months and how you can make it your best year yet!
