Welcome to The Business of Making Podcast with your hosts Mikaela Danvers, Deb Engelmajer and Jess Van Den.
Yes there are three of us! We bring with us over 20 years collective experience in the handmade industry. We're the Maker Mavens and we’re here to serve you, the creators and the visionaries, the Makers with Moxie.
We know from experience that growing a handmade business is BLOODY hard work. We’re here to make it a little bit easier for you by dishing out reality-based, no BS, tried and tested advice on how to make your business work. We’re going to get really clear on the business of making and we can’t wait!

Not only are you the creative director, you’re also the CFO, manufacturer, marketing manager, administration assistant and customer relations officer just to name a few – Cue brain explosion.

You make it all okay
I have been on a rollercoaster ride over the last two years, making jewellery and selling it on Etsy, starting with a sale every two weeks, a year later (with deb’s guidance on Tizzit) it was 60 a week and I was finding it hard to keep up. I stopped making and just bought in items I liked from artists and wholesalers.
A year later and I was selling 60 a day.
I didn’t know if I was in heaven or hell.
Two weeks ago Etsy closed my store. Taking me from £30,000 per month turnover to zero!!!
I have learned so much from you guys (one thing is never just sell on Etsy). I have spent the last two weeks listening to all of your posts again and I am ready to start all over, this time with my own store!
You have given so much, you make me laugh out loud when I’m deep in the woods walking the dog. You have stopped all of my sleepless nights and taken away the worry.
I am so grateful to you I going to become a patron to say thank you, thank you so very much x

I only came across this podcast yesterday and I’m loving it! I was so fed up of looking for handmade business advice and only finding random people selling expensive e-courses etc shouting about how only they know the secrets with no back up or proof that they even know what they’re talking about.
This podcast is a complete breath of fresh air, I can’t believe how much I’ve learned already! I’m just at the point of starting to plan turning my pocket money hobby into an actual real life business and this podcast is helping so much. I love that it’s presented in a no-nonsense way, it’s already got me thinking about things I had been aware of but not really known much about and my plans and aims are starting to come together (I think, that may change!)
