Best in class

This is far and away the best of the ‘ancient history narrative’ podcasts, because it finally breaks with the ‘History of Rome’ model of basically just relating the political careers of rulers while occasionally acknowledging that there might be some social, economic and cultural changes going on in the background somewhere. It’s just as entertaining and listenable, but it actually makes the listener feel like they are getting an understanding of how and why Ancient Greece evolved
(and what the status of the literary sources is), just rather than just who ruled it when.

Awesome

The level of detail is astonishing - collected for you by a brilliant and thoughtful scholar - great ongoing achievement - Thanks to Ryan the huge embarrassing voids in my understanding of why the ancient Greeks were so great are being filled in a way that brings their whole history to life
