Episode 52: Steps The James McMahon Music Podcast

    • Music Interviews

On this episode I’m talking to a group that have been doing what they do – famously, in the words of former manager Pete Waterman, ‘ABBA on speed’ – for the entirety of the time that I’ve been an adult. In fact, I’d like to dedicate this episode to my old friend Stacey Smith for teaching me the dance moves to '5,6,7,8' in the sixth form common room of Armthorpe Comprehensive, many moons ago...

I am of course talking about the British pop sensation Steps, and what follows is a conversation I had last week with Lee-Latchford Evans, Claire Richards and Lisa Scott-Lee, about the pressures of pop stardom, who the nicest member of the Manic Street Preachers is, the band’s forthcoming show in my hometown of Doncaster, as well as delving into some interesting stuff I’ve never heard them talk about regarding the formation of the group way back in 1997. Because this August the group release a new greatest hits, entitled The Platinum Collection, which celebrates the band's 25 years in showbiz – I urge you to go check out the band's corresponding publicity shots, no really, go do that, right this second – which they're promoting with shows and festival appearances though July until September.

I’ll be at one of them. Seeing if I remember the '5,6,7,8' moves. Enjoy the episode!
