The Joi of Social Work Podcast was born as a result of its creator Joi, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from the Bronx, being hit with tragedy in 2009, 2011 & 2017; with the deaths of her father, mother & boyfriend. Joi's friends encouraged her to tell her story through comedy as she uses humor as a coping mechanism. It wasn't until a friend presented her with a microphone & computer that podcasting became a thought.
Joi has also taken her story of life after loss and the importance of mental health care; especially in Black and Brown communities and shares it with listeners. Joi and her guests always keeps it real, honest & authentic on The Joi of Social Work Podcast!
Not The Strong Friend
What does being "strong" mean to you? Are you considered the "strong friend"? Well Joi is TI-RED of being "strong" and always on. 2020 has been a blessing & also draining. Make sure you are checking in with yourself, setting & sticking by your boundaries.
On Thursday Joi will be volunteering with My Finest Self LLC (IG: @my_finest_self_llc) for "Feeding the Community Harvest Fest". If you would like to make a donation you can send by CashApp to $myfinestselfllc.
He Turned It
The VP Looks Like Me!!! Whew! Congratulations Joe Biden & Kamala Harris!!! Joi has been reflecting on the phrase and song by Tye Tribbett "He Turned It". 2020 has been A LOT for most of us! Unfortunately there has been lots of loss, sadness and worry. However there have been some "turns" too. Whether in your mindset and how you see you life or in pivots that have been made during this pandemic. For Joi there has been a "turn" in how she sees herself as a businesswoman. Seeing Kamala elected VP of The United States allows her to see the "turns" are still happening and the limits that have been set for Black and Brown girls and women should be eliminated.
