It's Not You, It's Your Brain w/ Nicole Vignola #ep101
This week on The Quiet Life Michael speaks with Nicole Vignola – @nicoleneuroscience Neuroscientist, corporate consultant, Author and Speaker. We talk about her passion of bringing neuroscience to the masses, taking it out of the lab and making it accessible for all. In this episodes we
talk about how to re-wire your brain, break the cycle and make lasting change for the better and how you can use practical tools to overcome negative bias and reframe your mindset.
In this episode you’ll learn :
How our brains are like databases, shaped by our parents and peers, with learned thought and behaviour patterns.
How neuroplasticity (the brains ability to change, re-organise and grow) lasts well into old age.
How therapeutic intervention can help dementia patients.
How brainwave synchronisation happens during conversations; "we’re on the same wavelength" is real!
How stress triggers a sympathetic state, blocking self-reasoning. Certain breathing practices signal safety to the brain.
How brain health is the hardware; keep it in good condition for emotional well-being.
How exercise breaks down depression-causing molecules in the brain.

A spark of hope
I often find the wellness industry a little stressful, it seems to offer all the support and insight you could ever need but if you don’t look a certain way and already know the lingo it can feel alienating and downright confusing (what is healthy anyway?).
What I love about this podcast is that it takes all that away, it’s just a lovely conversation between two interesting people with a passion to do good and a genuine interest in learning how to do better.
The host’s voice is really soothing, this is a great way to start your day and bring a little positivity. COVID has definitely brought out the best and worst in us as humans, and this podcast brings me a little spark of hope.
I recommend you put the kettle on, get yourself a cup of tea and listen in.
