Brilliant podcast

Love this podcast including the jokes. History comes to life and helps to understand context and politics of the time. Please can we have a bonus episode of Tom singing the whole of Evita?
Great storytelling

Prefer the episodes without guests. Especially the French Revolution 7 parter. Thanks guys! Some art history or music would be fun, impressionists perhaps
THhE REST IS HISTORY : Simply THE BEST …….

I enjoy almost everything about History. I am dotty about this Podcast, both the hilarious back and forth between the hosts and their ability to revert to the central theme. In particular Tom & Dominic have delivered a flawless couple series on the Road to The Great War and The Assassination both of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Heir Apparent to the Dual Monarchy & his morganatic wife Sophie Chotek, whom, given the title Duchess Hohenberg stands last in any queue of Habsburgs at a family Buffet Luncheon. The what ifs in the lead up to war are explored and the brilliant way in which these two superb Historians keep the episodes both stimulating for other Historians as well as keeping their discussion accessible to all. I love the peppering of tired old clichés to make their audience laugh. I am such a fan - keep going you cheer me and so many other History students while educating and sparking my own thinking into a new direction. I agree with the worship of the Classics- viz Mods & Greats, the Christian symbolism, for example the shooting of Edith Cavell for allegedly being a spy. I love the Sparta/Baden Powell Boy Scouts parallel, a hugely important point and the element of Social Darwinism. The point about Russia not written off as a degenerate and rotten empire, but the City of London as much as military worrying about Russian Hegemony due to its rapidly growing industrialisation. FEAR is the fuel of the game. Asquith admitting his relief upon first hearing the news about the assassination of Franz Ferdinand writing to Venetia Stanley, with whom The Prime Minister is obsessed & indiscreetly expresses his hope that the Irish Question can be put further down the agenda thanks to the murders in Sarajevo. Venetia replies with extraordinary prescience that Asquith might be cutting his nose off to spite his face at feeling relief caused by the distraction at the murder of the Habsburg couple by Gavrilo Principe, the young Serbian Revolutionary. ‘Inevitable’ defined literaly is neither a word nor a concept that we can afford to use today nor when looking back even with ex-post-facto 20/20 vision. The Great War, the First World War could not be described as Inevitable, though it is certainly legitimately described as a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. I am thoroughly enjoying the French Revolution Series …. Thank you for delivering such high quality podcasts, education & entertainment. Bravo! Leonie Frieda

I can listen to these guys for hours. It's like sitting with a couple of friends who just happened to be very knowledgeable and have brilliant dark humour. Sometimes, you want to jump into the conversation or bring some rum for all. From the French Revolution to Evita, the 100 Years War, to the English elections in the 70s, all are absolutely brilliant.
