Arguably Britain's best film podcast
The Smoking Lamb brings together experienced critic, podcaster and independent filmmaker Andrew Mackay and enthusiastic, mouthy youngster Josh Morris, for a weekly dose of cross-generational discussion and debate about the world of film.
Each week's programme lasts between 1 and 2 hours, consisting of introductions (possibly followed by a guest interview), a look at the box office top ten (UK or US), between 1 and 3 reviews, a top 5 discussion and the unpredictable "Address the Lamb" segment.
Well and truly into its stride after its first 10 episodes (and on 15 as of this moment), The Smoking Lamb features highly professional (and amusing) creative [notably the intro] and an unpredictable mix of guests.
Andrew and Josh are joined most weeks by a guest. Occassionally this is a fellow critic (such as Mike Parkin), but often it's someone from the world of film.
So far stelwarts such as Graham Humphreys (poster artist), Chris Jones (British independent filmmaking guru) and Larry Cohen (legendary cult film writer/director) have dialled in for the show, which is growing a fantastic reputation week by week.
As you might expect from the title, in addition to the film, there is great comedic content. Not only the natural (often vulgar) humour of the two presenters, but also the contributions from guest star comedians such as Ian Moore, Sooz Kempner and Chris Dangerfield, who have no connection to the world of film.
Each show is full of passion, laughs and food for thought. If you're along for the ride you'll be entertained and learn a few things along the way, and not just trivia. The show is primarily for those whose passions echo the hosts, so if you're interested in filmmaking, debate/criticism and just having a laugh then you won't regret subscribing.
