Thank the (5) stars

Gripped by the World Cup, I downloaded lots of podcasts. Many were repetitive (‘how wonderful was Modric’ ... well, yes he is, but don’t forget the brilliant team around him ... ‘Giroud was terrible, didn’t have a shot on target’ ... wait a minute, had Mbappe not tapped in from a metre out against Peru, would that not have been credited to Giroud?) and generally riddled with lazy, poorly-constructed opinion. Even worse, some were oafishly laddish, seeing the world from behind Eng-er-land tinted specs. So ‘The Sound of Football’ stood out for me; these guys clearly don’t just trot out the same old stuff and, despite being Englishmen (as am I) they take time to give considered opinion. I look forward to the forthcoming season and will be looking into the back catalogue. Here’s hoping I’m not disappointed by ‘ooh, weren’t they brave and plucky’ patronising of an excellent Icelandic team from Euro 2016 or a ‘ruthless clinical efficiency’ cliche about Germany’s wonderful 2014 team!

Best Football Fan Podcast

Big fan of this podcast. Really enjoy how they tackle various issues that concern the game with a depth of intelligence not found on other fan podcasts.

Charming and doesn't take itself too seriously

A long standing gem of a podcast that was deservedly rewarded with an wards nomination at the 2014 Football Supporters' Federation shindig. Regular participants Graham Sibley, Terry Duffelen and Jan Bilton all talk entertainingly about football's big issues and with no little wit and humour.
