A woman hires Dex to look into the man her sister is marrying (Zack Knight). As Dex digs, she discovers Zack's finacée died in a car accident after a driver hit and killed her. But as Dex dives even deeper, she realizes the drunk driver was actually Jess, the woman who Zack planned on marrying. Dex interrupts the wedding, and Jess reveals the truth. Unable to forgive her, Zack storms off.

Hoffman's battling his own demons. His father insists on representing Chaz which the judge rules isn't actually a conflict of interest. Hoffman fights fire with fire and finds ex-employees of his father who speak out against him anonymously. At the end, Lionel says this makes him proud of his son.

This week, Dex seeks a new client, Jeremy's, birth parents. As she searches for his biological parents, she discovers a scandal from Shephard church where they took children from their parents and sent then to foster parents who were "pure." Eventually, Dex reunites Jeremy with his father, but Jeremy's biological dad doesn't stick around long. Meanwhile, the talk of family forces Dex to confront her own issues with her parents who abandoned her and her brother years ago. At the end, there is some justice when Jeremy meets his biological aunt and extended family who tell him they saved a place for him in their family. Separately, Grey goes undercover and meets Max, living out a story akin to the Fast and the Furious. Grey seems to understand he needs to be better, and not fall back into a life of crime, when Ansel tells him he wants to be a man like Grey. At the end of the episode, Max calls Grey into their garage with the rest of the crew, and they end up bringing him into their business with heroin.

Dex appears on "Black Justice" and impresses Judge Antonio Pierce so much that he hires her to find his brother Latarus so that he can be served after selling his mother's house from under her and leaving her homeless, After Dex finds Latarus but learns that he owes money to a Dwaddle Chan who was his business partners over some cats but because of customs Latarus couldn't get the cats causing him to be kidnapped and ransomed to Antonio. Ansel wants to move out but Dex isn't ready and refuses to really discuss the option with him. Dex and Hoffman are still awkward with each other. Hoffman gets roped into taking Captain White's wife to Matchbox Twenty and when their car gets carjacked Hoffman must find the perpetrators with Grey's help. After Judge Antonio Pierce gets shot saving his brother, he offers him $250,000 and to never see him again or he can help him get on with his life. Dex realizes she has to let Ansel go and be on her own if she wants to be able to have a healthy relationship with her brother.
