SE1 EP04: From Loss To Leadership. Chelsea Dinsmore On What It Takes To Live Your Legend
Today on the Success Journeys Podcast I am so happy to be speaking with Chelsea Liebelt Dinsmore who co-created Live Your Legend with her late husband Scott Dinsmore.
Live Your Legend is a movement about Finding & doing work you love and surrounding yourself with the people who make it possible.
The Live Your Legend website and membership program is filled with courses on how to find your life’s purpose and a fabulous supportive community as well as free local meet ups worldwide.
One of the main ways which most people including myself seem to first discover Live Your Legend is through a Ted talk which Scott first gave back in 2012, on how to find work you love.
If you’ve seen this video it is full of such passion and purpose, that the first thing most of us do straight after watching the video, is Google Scott’s name, only to discover the shocking news that this incredible human being who we feel we’ve just met and feel so connected to passed away.
Yes it’s true we Google Live Your Legend and the website confirms it “in September 2015 after being hit by falling rocks while nearing the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro Scott sadly died”.
Even though this is very hard to deal with, there seems to be no better way to drive home Scott’s message of the fragility of life, and how if we plan to do something that matters the only time to do it is now, because tomorrow may never come.
After Scott’s death Scott’s wife Chelsea showed incredible courage and strength by continuing Scott’s work with Live Your Legend and now drives the incredible movement which Scott left behind.
I am therefore humbled and honoured to welcome Chelsea onto the show today.

SE1 EP02: Mike Goody – How Nearly Dying Taught Me How To Live
Today on the success Journeys podcast we’re talking with Mike Goody.
Mike is an Ex Injured RAF regiment gunner, a four times gold and silver Invictus Games medallist for swimming and he’s training to become the first amputee British paramedic. He’s also a future GB Paralympics swimming medalist in training.
He’s the handsome cheeky chappy whose motto is to go to the end of the earth to help his fellow brothers and sisters. He’s climbed that mountain, (three to be exact) scuba dived, kayaked, swam the English channel, as well as competed in Bolton’s Iron Man Challenge – twice!
He laughs in the face of the nay sayers, turns impossible to I’m possible, proves you wrong ten fold and he’ll never accept defeat.
Mike has achieved all this and more.
His story begins in 2008 while on his first tour in Afghanistan his life changed forever. The armoured vehicle he was driving hit a roadside bomb, and trapped him under the wreckage.
He was pulled free after three hours and later flown to Birmingham’s Selly Oak hospital in the United Kingdom. The blast caused such severe injuries to his left leg as well as brain injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Mike was left wheelchair bound and endured 14 major surgeries in an attempt to repair the shattered bones,
In 2011 Mike opted for an elective amputation. six weeks after his prosthetic limb was fitted he was walking with a stick. Many would let such a moment define them, but not Mike. His courage, drive, and deep competitive inner spirit for life always wins over, after all he was an ex junior GB swimmer and so he’s decided to live his life to the max.
Mike is a highly active fund raiser as well as an inspirational speaker, and I am really happy to have him with us on the show today.

SE1 EP01: Mariam Paré – I Wouldn’t Let Paralysis Stop Me Painting
Today on the success Journeys podcast we’re talking with Mariam Paré someone who always says yes to life.
Mariam is a hugely talented visual artist mouth painter, fundraiser inspirational speaker and founding member of STEAM Studios an organization that provides world-class arts education to under-served Chicago communities.
Ever since she was little Mariam always loved to paint. Her passion for creating art continued throughout her teenage years and Mariam dreamed of a career making art.
In 1996, at the age of 20 her journey was diverted tragically off course when she became the victim of gun violence.
While stopped at a stop sign in the driver’s seat of a friend’s car, gun fire erupted on the adjacent sidewalk. In a matter of seconds, the unthinkable happened and Mariam’s life changed forever. A single bullet passed through the door of the car and struck her in the back of the neck paralyzing her instantly.
Though Mariam wouldn’t let that stop her, she used her love for her art to pull her through and embarked on a long period of rehabilitation. She slowly and painfully relearned to do everyday activities which had previously been taken for granted.
Mariam learned to get around using a wheelchair. She learned new ways of holding things with fingers that did not move. She also learned how to use her mouth for tasks that required a tight grip or precision in her movements.
At the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, a therapist taught Mariam to hold a pencil in her mouth to write her name. This single lesson exposed Mariam to a new possible way of painting. She realised if she could control a pencil in this way, then why not a paintbrush? With earnest determination, she soon began teach herself again how to paint using her mouth.
Over the years Mariam has provided inspirational and memorable speaking services for many groups and companies.
Twenty years after her violent injury, painting by mouth has become second nature to Mariam, who now proudly possesses painting skills tantamount to that of any able-bodied counterpart.
She exhibits her work in galleries both nationally and locally as well as in numerous private collections. She works prolifically from her home studio in Chicago and I’m immensely privileged to have her on the show today…
