Chris is the co-founder of the London based Drum & Bass label Hospital and therefore (along with his team) the power behind the Hospitality clubs and festivals.
Like me he has a background in London record shops and clubland and his selection of tracks reflects that with a great range of Hip-Hop, Jazz, House, Disco and of course Drum & Bass. We discuss not only the music itself but the industry that makes it happen in this the last episode of this series.

Andy Copper is a MC, musician and producer who is best known to most as one third of the Hip-Hop group Ugly Duckling.
This California native was kind enough to give me an hour of his time from the other side of the pond in early October 2020 and our discussion ranged everything from The Muppets, film and of course music in what turned out to be a really enjoyable chat with someone I had never met.

Danny Rankin while a DJ in his own right may be best known to many of you as Decoy from the brilliant BBC show ‘People Just Do Nothing’.
Kind enough to respond to a message through social media as we had never previously met he made time to choose a great Top 5 Records and to record this episode. A selection of UK and US Hip-Hop and dancehall gives you a good idea of what drives him on.

Lily grew up in North London and under the influence of her older brother & MTV got into Hip-Hop and has since emerged herself in the urban music scene. As a DJ she has a show on Rinse FM and as a journalist has written for countless publications as well as her own Viper Magazine.
Her selection was influenced by experiences in her life including the loss of her mother to whom she was clearly very close and has a real soulful thread running through it. The Teddy Pendergrass documentary is called 'Teddy Pendergrass: If You Don't Know Me By Now' and is available through Amazon and on BBC I-player in the UK.

Episode 8: Charle Dark (Run Diem Crew / Attica Blues
Welcome to The Top 5 Records Podcast Episode 8 with the man the myth the legend Charlie Dark.
You can stream the podcast below or subscribe through Apple Podcasts herefrom Spotify here
or search for The Top 5 Records Podcast through your preferred podcast provider.
Charlie Dark is a good friend of mine and a one time business partner when we founded FUN DMC together.
Charlie has led an extremely interesting professional life and we delve into some of that here. Having started as a DJ he was singed to the Mo Wax label as part of group Attica Blues before going on to sign a major label deal with Sony that did not work out at planned. Disillusioned with the music biz he threw himself into self care and off the back started Run Dem Crew a running community which now meets weekly and has tons of members ranging from casual runners to those who run marathons around the globe.
It is this ability of bringing people together than I think is Charlie’s real strength. He is a vocal supporter of those around him always pushing them to achieve through all manor of initiatives including his latest project Run Dem Radio which will be taking to the airwaves in the upcoming weeks.

Episode 7: Homeboy Sandman
Welcome to The Top 5 Records Podcast Episode 7 with Homeboy Sandman
You can stream the podcast below or subscribe through Apple Podcasts herefrom Spotify here
or search for The Top 5 Records Podcast through your preferred podcast provider.
Homeboy Sandman is a phenomenal New York MC. I had the pleasure of meeting him and working with him when I put on his first ever UK show and we have remained in touch since.
At the end of 2008, Homeboy Sandman was named "Best Hip Hop Act in NYC 2008" by New York Press and in 2011 he singed to one of my favourite record labels stones throw - the home to the likes of Madlib, Damn Funk, J Dilla and so many more. He is now releasing music through the Mello Music Group and has a new album out now produced by Quele Chris called ‘Dont Feed The Monster’
This interview took place in September 2020 with Homeboy Sandman in his apartment in Brooklyn New York and me calling from home in London. There were a couple of issues with our connection and there was a little work being done on his apartment at the time so please excuse any unavoidable background noise. It was in fact recorded a few days later than planned because when I originally FaceTimed I was greeted by my guest topless on a beach but that is another story…..
