    The Darkley Church Killings

    The Darkley Church Killings

It was a Sunday evening in November, 1983 and 65 people were attending service at the Mountain Lodge Pentecostal Church Service. The church was a small wooden building on the outskirts of the Northern Irish village of Darkley, in the county of Armagh, which was close to the border with the Republic of Ireland. The popular hymn, 'Are You Washed in the Blood of the Lamb' was playing, and pastor Bobby Bain was leading the singing.
It was at this time, three masked gunmen arrived at the church.
As the congregation started singing the final verse ‘Lay aside the garments that are stained by sin’, the shooting began. What ensued has gone on to be known as the Darkley Killings and in this episode we will learn about what happened and who was responsible.

Great Podcast

This is a superb podcast that allows people of all sections of the community and security forces, to relate their stories and experiences during what has become known, in that understated term, as “The Troubles”. Oisin has an excellent interview technique, some reviewers think he has an element of bias towards the republican/IRA side, however I am grateful that someone has taken up this challenge to inform and educate those who want to know more. I don’t believe anyone could do this Podcast without some criticism related to bias, but I personally don’t think it’s intentional. Oisin allows his guests to speak openly without judging them. This is a remarkable piece of work as it’s important to gather all these accounts before it’s too late, keep up the good work.

Biased and anti nationalist

Typical of the south Dublin attitude that poisons Ireland’s quest for full sovereignty of her ancient lands, this plays almost like an apologia to Loyalism.
