At TVC, we've realized that we have a deep need to nourish our spiritual lives. We've grown tired of our tendency toward spiritual lethargy, cynicism, skepticism and brokenness. So, we're doing something about it. We're becoming intentional about our faith by drawing close to God in worship, studying His Word, and learning to give and take in the context of a community of believers. At The Village Chapel, we seek to be transformed as we feed our minds on God's truth and our hearts on God's love.
Genesis 8-9 - The God of New Beginnings
The Christian faith is not always about explanations but it is always about promises. And the promises of God are based upon the character of God. Here in Genesis 8-9 we learn that even though we are all sinners, God remains faithful to His promises and to His people. Join Pastor Jim as he reminds us that the God of the Bible is the God of new beginnings, who remembers His people, rescues His people, and renews His people.
Genesis 6-7 - What timeless truths can we learn from the story of Noah and the Ark?
As we come to chapter 6 we find that human beings, created in the image of God had begun turning their backs on God, attempting to control their own destiny, to find fulfillment apart from God and God’s design for their lives. Put simply, humanity became reckless in its pursuit of unrivaled power and unbridled pleasure. Sound familiar? Join Pastor Jim as he leads us through the familiar story of Noah, the Great Flood and the Ark.
Genesis 5 - Is it possible to walk with God in a fallen world?
So far, Genesis has shown us that the physical universe and the space-time continuum had a beginning and a Beginner. All of creation, including and especially human life, has a telos/purpose and a design, and therefore, every human life is significant and meaningful.
But what are we to make of the amazing lifespan claims here in Genesis 5? How does this chapter show the compounding consequences of humanity’s sinful rebellion against God? Was there a glimmer of hope for redemption?
Join Pastor Jim as he helps unpack the timeless message of Genesis 5.
Genesis 4 - Am I my brother/sister’s keeper?
Genesis 4 is a combination of narrative and dialogue. This is a story set in antediluvian history, overflowing with timeless lessons to be learned. Who were Cain and Abel? What can we learn from their lives, the choices they made and how they interacted with God? Join Pastor Jim as he shows us how God is always at work, making progress with His plans for redemption history, no matter how dark the days may appear to us.
Genesis 3 - What has gone wrong with the world?
Genesis has much to teach us about who God is and who we are as his image bearers. Chapter 3 describes the tragic introduction of sin into the world through the rebellion of Adam and Eve. They listened and obeyed the word of the Serpent above the word of God. This chapter reveals the absurdity and disintegrating effects of sin, but more than that, we witness God's plan of redemption set into motion.
Genesis 2 - What is the role of humanity in this world?
Genesis helps us push ‘reset’ so we can be reminded of who God is, who we are as human persons, why God created us, what our purpose in life is, and what God desires for each one of us. Growing in our knowledge of these things will broaden and clarify our perspective on the big questions of life and will help us flourish better as we experience life as individuals, and as a society of persons, within God’s creation.
Genesis 2 serves like a commentary on Genesis 1 elaborating in greater detail on a biblical work ethic, God’s creation of humankind, and the establishment of God’s design for marriage.
