Woody Adjacent - Kevin Bacon, John Malkovich, Jamie Lee Curtis & Joe Mantegna - Queens Logic (1991)

On this episode we are doing a supporter request from our ongoing patreon campign.

In truth, we get quite a few requests for Woody Allen Adjacent that don't quite fit the bill, but in this case we just could not ignore the ensemble cast and woody like setting - a worthy candidate for this project from the outset.....

How did we feel about it though?    >_>>  https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro OR  https://ko-fi.com/woodyretro

Woody Adjacent - Steve Coogan & Rob Brydon - The Trip Movie Series (2010-2020)

Woody Adjacent - Steve Coogan & Rob Brydon - The Trip Movie Series (2010-2020)

A very happy new year 2024 to all our fellow listeners and subscribers!

Today we are starting the year off with a bigger project from our co-host James, as it is his month of choice for the decided movie discussion. As such, James has chosen a British movie series that is a recut of an existing television series focusing on two comedians playing fictional versions of themselves. Its a fun one to start the year off with for sure... lets dig in!

In "The Trip" (2010), comedian Steve Coogan embarks on a culinary tour of northern England with his frenemy, fellow comedian Rob Brydon. While ostensibly reviewing restaurants for The Observer, their journey becomes a hilariously melancholic exploration of friendship, aging, and artistic validation.

Woody Adjacent - Maggie Smith, Richard Pryor, Michael Caine, Elaine May, Alan Alda, Bill Cosby & Jane Fonda - California Suite (1978)

Woody Adjacent - Maggie Smith, Richard Pryor, Michael Caine, Elaine May, Alan Alda, Bill Cosby & Jane Fonda - California Suite (1978)

We are here at the very END of 2023 with our last Adjacent release!

If you have been keeping up with us in recent months we have been hinting at using Ai as a 3rd source of research in choosing our adjacent picks. We have 65 movies.. one for every year since 1969.

James randomly got a 10 from our adjacent list choice picker.. and that means today we are going to talk about.....

In 1978's California Suite, four suites witness the bittersweet joys and crushing anxieties of their temporary residents. Through interwoven vignettes of laughter, tears, and the bittersweet tang of human connection, California Suite paints a poignant portrait of life, love, and the pursuit of dreams under the California sun.

Critical, Fair & Funny

I’ve really enjoyed these podcasts and the hosts do a great job of critiquing Woody Allen’s back catalogue.

I’ve also had some good recommendations from this show for other Woody Allen-like movies that have been fantastic so far.

Good work, guys!

A laid back seemingly millenial discourse on Woodys epic filmography

his was a refreshing and surprisingly good recommendation from the fabulous Woody Allen Pages website (highly recommended) and although the hosts are a bit younger than I would have expected, it is actually refreshing to get a more.. shall we say, millennial perspective on Woody Allen's filmography. I can understand why some people may be frustrated with their unpolished and brash approach to some conversations but a lot of so called Woody Allen fans are quite stuffy, entitled and ironically hypocritical in any objective criticism so I agree when the hosts themselves push back on critics of their decorum or so called lack of in depth hollywood knowledge, they are self proclaimed movie schlubs so my expectations were tempered.. that being said, there doesn't seem to be any other alternatives as of yet. So regardless, I have to commend these gentlemen on their dedication and focus on almost every video production by Allen they have so far covered and they did make me question my thoughts and feelings on some movies I liked and others I thought I did not. The Mia Farrow controversy episode was.. memorable... to say the very least. All in all, this is a very entertaining listen and I'm glad someone finally did a series dedicated to one of the worlds greatest filmmakers regardless of any ongoing controveries that might stop more people from doing the same
