Podcast 23: Lee Cronin, the ‘Chemputer’, and New Designs of Life

A new revolution in drug development is coming… What if sharing the recipe for a chemical compound was as simple as downloading a blueprint? Long-time GISTer Miruna Costreie sat down with Professor Lee Cronin, and got the details on his lab’s latest work, his long-term goal of creating a new form of life, and how competition and collaboration (our latest magazine’s theme) have shaped his career.

    ~

If you’d like to read more about Professor Cronin’s work, you can read the original paper, check out his lab’s website, and a demonstration for the University of Glasgow in a video here. Special thanks again to Prof. Cronin for taking the time to speak to us, and his PA Amanda McGarvey for fitting us in.

    Podcast 21: FameLab 2018

    Podcast 21: FameLab 2018

If we had to describe FameLab, it would be like Radio 4’s “just a minute” – you have to talk without repetition, hesitation and deviation. But instead, it’s three minutes in front of an audience, and each talk is about an interesting part of STEM!
Annabel May visits Glasgow Caledonian University to interview this year’s winners of the Glaswegian heat of FameLab, and chats to Kenneth Macdonald (BBC Scotland Science correspondent) about science communication.

Fun and informative

Love this podcast, theGIST cover such a massive range of science and technology topics. They always have great guests on and have interviewed people from NASA, popular science authors and even TV presenters. They manage to break down some pretty complicated stuff, even in the shorter episodes - I’m so glad that they are releasing more regularly now! Subscribe!
