    Episode 28 - Men‘s Mental Health

    Episode 28 - Men‘s Mental Health

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50. It seems to be the unspoken truth that while women are more likely to seek help in times of emotional distress, men may not feel as open discussing it.

We all manage our mental health, just as we would our physical, but men's mental health specifically is a topic that is thankfully getting more attention in the media in recent years.

In this episode we talk about the negative effects toxic masculinity plays in men's mental health, why 'man up' may be one of the most unhelpful terms in the English vocabulary and how we all have a part to play in helping the men in our lives.

As usual, we go off topic just a touch to lighten the mood as we discuss dinosaurs on the moon, Tim's 'tradesman' telephone voice and Britt likens Adam Driver to a fridge.

We hope you enjoy this one.

Episode 27 - Relationships and Mental Health

Episode 27 - Relationships and Mental Health

Our close relationships can have a huge impact on the state of our mental health. So how do we manage our own emotional wellbeing in the face of a potentially challenging relationship?
How do we recognise when a relationship is toxic to our mental health and what can we do about that?

In this episode we talk about all the many and varied lessons we have learnt from going through our fair share of bad relationships and explain what we did differently this time and why we believe our relationship works.

Along the way we discuss gaslighting, narcissism and why exactly Britt recorded this episode in her dressing gown.

We hope you enjoy this one.

    Episode 26 - Trauma

    Episode 26 - Trauma

We're back and we've come back BIG!

In this episode we discuss Trauma.
We talk about definitions of trauma, what the effects can be and what we actually do about getting past it.
Along the way we both share stories of our own personal trauma, including experiences of bereavement, displacement and bullying.

As always we approach the topic in usual TOTB style and do all we can to shine a light rather than simply curse the darkness.

Episode 25 - How To Get Out Of Your Own Way: Barriers and Boundaries

Episode 25 - How To Get Out Of Your Own Way: Barriers and Boundaries

We all have various barriers and boundaries that dictate what we feel we can comfortably do and where we feel we can comfortably go. These are the beliefs and patterns of thought that in their attempt to protect us just end up holding us back and restricting our growth.

So where do these ideas come from and how do we change them?

In this episode we highlight what differentiates a barrier from a boundary and how we go about knocking down both so we can take the steps necessary to achieve emotional freedom.

Along the way we discuss Britt's newly straightened teeth, the Wombles of Wimbledon Common and the time Tim doggie paddled off a pirate ship.

    Enjoy...

...and keep thinking outside the box!

Episode 24 - Thank you for coming to my TED talk

Episode 24 - Thank you for coming to my TED talk

“Thank you for coming to my TED talk.”

That's not something either of us said when we actually gave our talks but we both wish we had!!

We gave our TED talks about anxiety (Tim) and depression (Britt) a year apart and to this day they remain amongst our proudest and most challenging achievements.
Tim’s talk has even passed one million views on YouTube!

But giving a TED talk wasn’t without its issues.

From Britt having a breakdown two days before to Tim’s talk potentially not being accepted by TED, it really was a rollercoaster of emotions.

In this weeks podcast episode, we discuss our TED journey, what it took to get there, and how we feel about it now.

    And if that wasn’t enough Box content and if you haven’t already given the talks a watch, we obviously highly recommend doing so, you can find them on YouTube by searching;

    Episode 23 - Bo Burnham's 'Inside'

    Episode 23 - Bo Burnham's 'Inside'

A friend of ours recently recommended we watch a comedy special on Netflix called 'Inside' made by a guy we'd never heard of called Bo Burnham.

What we watched was something much more than a comedy special. What we watched was perhaps one of the most visceral and relatable representations of the struggles many of us have been through in the last 16 months and the effect it has had on our collective mental health.

Yes, it's funny. It's very funny.

It's also shocking, moving, and in many places all too real.

In this episode of Thinking Outside The Box we decided to talk about it. It's not a review of the programme (although you will get our opinion on it), and it's not a critique of Bo Burnham as a performer or as an individual. This is just our thoughts on the impact the show had on us and what we feel we can learn from Bo Burnham's 'Inside'.

Please find us on socials and let us know your thoughts.
Have you seen the show? Did you enjoy it? Did it resonate with you?
    And as always...

    Keep Thinking Outside The Box!

Stressed, Depressed, Anxious? Then this Podcast is a must!!

I was introduced to Tim via Mind Management Zoom sessions arranged by my employer to help us through the pandemic. I have come away from each session with so much. This led me to following both Tim and Britt on Insta and their content really helps me to feel like I’m not alone in battle with anxiety and depression.

Listening to Britt’s insta stories feels like getting support from a friend and so I had high expectations when they announced the podcast. I have to say I have not been disappointed.

If you struggle with Anxiety and Depression or you want to get a better understanding in order to help and support a loved one then this is the podcast for you. I have recommended your insta profiles to so many friends and family (especially the Disney and Lego lovers Britt) and I will do the same for the Podcast. Well done and Thank You for being something to come out of 2020 for me.
