#151 - Investing in Tech’s Transition in Transportation with Aroon Amarnani of XPO Logistics

#151 - Investing in Tech’s Transition in Transportation with Aroon Amarnani of XPO Logistics

"It's three things: it's technology, technology, technology. I think there's a fourth thing: technology. And I keep using that word ‘investing’."

Over a decade ago, XPO Logistics entered the freight transportation market. Its success in capturing market share, and its continual growth in a competitive marketplace that requires constant innovation, show they're doing a lot right.

VP of Strategy and Sustainability at XPO, Aroon Amarnani, hammers home his point about backing the technology. And he cites several examples of XPO's sustainability efforts, such as incentivizing employees with benchmark metrics based on the company's ESG scorecard.

XPO is also partnering with its customers in its sustainability work. ‘Ship Net-Zero’ offers XPO's truck brokerage customers the ability to purchase carbon offsets for the sustainability project of their choice. Aroon details the specifics of Ship Net-Zero, its Connect platform, as well as XPO’s current endeavors in battery electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Maria and Aroon also dive into the changing logistics landscape and how XPO is navigating to set itself up for future successes, giving a dose of hope and practical takeaways to close the episode.

#150 - Aligning Internally Before Innovating with Felix Vicknair of Kenco Group

#150 - Aligning Internally Before Innovating with Felix Vicknair of Kenco Group

On this episode of Transform Talks, Felix Vicknair, Vice President, Supply Chain Solutions at Kenco Group, joins host Maria Villablanca.

With multi-decade experience in supply chain consulting, Felix shares lessons he's learned through changing times.

Digital transformation or automation turns up the speed for companies. If businesses aren't aligned with what they need in a digital transformation, they'll be going faster, potentially in the wrong direction. The need for planning and understanding the level of dynamics involved in the digital transformation is critical.

Also vital to the success of a digital transformation project is team alignment. Felix speaks about the ideal team for executing digital transformation projects. Communication and alignment are key. A team that is self-aware of each other's strengths with communal communication is more apt for success. He also highlights leadership and its relation to the success of large-scale projects.

Felix shares real-time examples of applying advanced analytics with forecasting. He's used drones on projects and expects robots to be utilized next. In the end, it all comes down to understanding the needs of the customer and the direction they're headed.

#149 - Seeing the Signs of Change with Brian Hatch of Flowserve Corporation

#149 - Seeing the Signs of Change with Brian Hatch of Flowserve Corporation

On this episode of Transform Talks, Brian Hatch, Supply Chain Manager at Flowserve Corporation, joins host Maria Villablanca.

Brian is a seasoned global manager in supply chain. He has 30 years of experience in purchasing, transportation, inventory, materials management, negotiation, contract execution, and operations management.

In these unprecedented times, Brian provides insights into the changing dynamics of supply chain. Just-in-time inventory and doing things last-second no longer work. Many companies hoarding materials and products have led to ripples felt throughout the global supply chain.

Brian challenges people to look at what they can do to impact their company's supply chain. From accounting to purchasing to end consumers, the breadth of supply chain goes beyond the manufacturers and distributors.

There’s now a need to factor in 'lumpy' demand when forecasting. Demand cycles are no longer just seasonal or annual. There’s now more ups and downs due to inconsistent scenarios like panic-buying. A deep look into forecasting should determine the continuance or discontinuance of a product. We have to understand the supply chain is connected beyond single businesses. We have to work together.

#148 - Rethinking Mental Wellness with Ardeshir Mehran of Human Work Studio

#148 - Rethinking Mental Wellness with Ardeshir Mehran of Human Work Studio

On this episode of Transform Talks, Ardeshir Mehran, Founder and Principal at Human Work Studio, joins host Maria Villablanca.

Maria and Ardeshir dive into mental wellness or, as Ardeshir sees it, emotional wellness. Mental implies the mind or only the brain. In reality, mental health and mental illnesses are composed of feelings that radiate throughout the body.

Anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder are a few examples of mental illnesses. All of them impact more than just the mind.

Ardeshir illuminates the subject that is often taboo to discuss or even admit in leadership positions in the business world. Depression fought is actually a gift, he says.

He addresses the issue or common thought of having too many problems or fires going on in life to consider emotional wellness. Ardeshir breaks down this mirage of complacency around your body's health. Your mind should follow your body's messages rather than the other way around.

Listen to the entire episode to learn more and hear Ardeshir walk through an exercise to determine if you have anxiety.

Simply Fantastic!

Supply chain is hot at the moment but supply chain podcasts are typically dry and although there are many which offer great insights, I haven't yet found one like this. Maria Villablanca is a great host and is brilliant at uncovering interesting stories and exploring what supply chain best practice looks like - and she does this in an entertaining and digestable way. Love love love it!
