Hello and welcome to Transplants Take On Sport! My name’s Lewis Daniels and I’m mostly made up of the same parts I was born with, the only difference being a kidney my mum donated to me when my kidneys failed.
As a keen sportsman, when I was told I needed a kidney transplant I wasn’t sure whether I’d be able to continue doing what I love to do. But finding out about the England and Wales Transplant Cricket Club gave me the motivation to one day be part of an inspirational team of players who are in their second innings thanks to the power of organ donation.
Now part of the team, I’m looking forward to using the gift of life to continue playing cricket and compete in other events at the Transplant Games.
Join me as I talk to guests from the world of transplant sport who tell their stories, talking through their experiences, overcoming obstacles to live a full and happy life and hopefully inspiring more people who are in the position that we were in.
You don’t have to be a transplant patient, the podcast really is for every sports fan as we take a light-hearted look into sport, transplants and any other nonsense that might come up.

Daniel Barnes: Appreciation for Life, Recovering During a Global Pandemic & The Mental Benefits of Sport
Joining Lewis is liver transplant recipient and Nottingham Transplant Football Club player, Daniel Barnes.
Daniel opens up about his experiences of living with primary sclerosing cholangitis, liver failure, having a liver transplant and recovering from transplant surgery during a global pandemic. He also talks about his return to full fitness and playing football again after his transplant as well as how he has benefitted mentally from playing sport with other transplant recipients.

Ben Hastings: From 2 Weeks to Live to International Footballer
Joining Lewis this time is liver transplant recipient and Nottingham Transplant Football Club player, Ben Hastings.
Ben explains how his life suddenly changed when his liver failed, how he regained his fitness after his transplant and returning to playing football again. He also talks about how important playing football with other transplant recipients has been mentally for him and his preparation for representing Transplant Team GB at the European Transplant Games this summer.

Another great interview/ story with Ashley Butcher Lewis what a guy.👏 Each persons story is unique and inspirational. So good to hear them getting on with life and accomplishing great things.
Pod for sports fans and people wanting to know more about transplants alike.
A great pod. As someone who is currently going through work ups for transplant, it’s encouraging and reassuring to hear the stories of people who have been through it, and to know keeping active and participating in sport can still be a large part of post transplant life.
Highly recommend for those with a personal interest in transplant sport, and sport fans in general.

I’ve listened to a couple of the pods - it’s good to hear stories and proves that we can all achieve our goals no matter our abilities or conditions.
