Truth & Movies #140 - Rapid rodents and Jane Austen reloaded

Truth & Movies #140 - Rapid rodents and Jane Austen reloaded

Truth & Movies levels up this week with not one but two video game movies, with Michael Leader, David Jenkins and Clarisse Loughrey forming our multiplayer superteam. New in cinemas, Sega’s rapid rodent Sonic the Hedgehog gets a long overdue run out courtesy of Paramount and director Jeff Fowler, while in Film Club we revisit the (unfairly?) maligned Super Mario Bros from 1993. Sandwiched between those is another new adaptation, Autumn de Wilde’s take on Jane Austen’s Emma. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Truth & Movies #139 - The return of Harley Quinn plus another quality Bong hit

On this week’s show Michael Leader is joined by Hannah Woodhead and, making her T&M debut, Anna Bogutskaya to discuss DC’s female-fronted anti-superhero movie Birds of Prey, starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Also in cinemas Friday is Bong Joon-ho’s Palme d’Or winning social satire Parasite – will it triumph at the Oscars next week? Besides those new releases, we take in another quality Bong hit in the shape of his post-apocalyptic 2013 thriller Snowpiercer. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Truth & Movies #138 - Classic Clint plus Willem Dafoe’s wicked smile

Seadogs and scapegoats abound on this week’s Truth & Movies, as Michael Leader, Sophie Monks Kaufman and Adam Woodward pore over the latest releases. In The Lighthouse, Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe descend into madness in 19th century Maine, with director Robert Eggers joining us for a quick chat about the making of the film. Then in Richard Jewell, Clint Eastwood continues his recent purple patch with a scrutinous look at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Park bombing. And finally, we revisit Czech erotic oddity Valerie and Her Week of Wonders ahead of its new home entertainment release courtesy of Second Run. An exquisite podcast

A podcast that delivers the news and gets you excited for movies. I love the rotating guests and the Cannes coverage was stupendous

On the decline

Used to enjoy this podcast, especially with AC at the helm, he used to balance the show, but since he’s left it feels like a group of pretensions kids getting kicks out of slating movies. I understand it’s their job to critique but sometimes it boarders playground bullying how they insult movies, they laugh together and take cheap shots to the point that the one who guest who might have something to say feels reluctant to discuss what they enjoyed and instead joins in mocking. As I said, I enjoyed it for a while but now I can’t manage to get through a whole episode.

Dreadful

Jimbo was the only good thing about it.
