Sound and practical advice

As a behaviour analyst I find listening to Mary really encouraging because she tells it like it is from a mother’s point of view but also helps the professional to do a revision of their skills to go back to basics to put in place what is most powerful for the learner. I love the podcasts and all of her mentors, peers and colleagues who contribute. So many thanks Mary and keep up the good work - from a fan in the UK

As an adult autistic I can tell you that ‘modifying’ the behaviour of a child does not change their inner world or their experience of the world. Instead you cause distress, trauma and mental health problems. ABA is state sanctioned child abuse. We are differently wired and you can’t ‘cure’ that like it’s a disease. Listen to autistic voices instead of this tripe - we can tell you the reality.

I really enjoyed this podcast and will do the activities with my grandson. He does not appear to have echolia but does have odd break though words. He has spent a year with decreased hearing from 1-2 and has just had ENT surgery. Difficult to say how much this has impacted on his speech, but whatever is the cause these tips will be very useful. Thank you.
