    012 - Addictive Personality Disorder

It’s time for episode 12, it’s not uncommon for those that find themselves with an addiction to alcohol, getting addicted to other things. Why is that? Why do some people get addicted and others don’t? Is that to do with them as a person or something else?

In this episode we’ll find out from Dr Mindy Bartlett. Dr Bartlett holds a Doctorate in Education and is CEO of Essential Drug & Alcohol Services (EDAS).  She has over 20 years' experience working in the field of addiction and in that time has gained a huge insight into the multi-dimensional perspectives of drug and alcohol use and the levels of complexity for the individual user, their family and the community. We hope you enjoy this episode, we certainly did!

011 - The person beneath the alcoholism

011 - The person beneath the alcoholism

Today Jo and Paula will be talking with Dr Giles Croft and Sam Wilde on the person beneath the addiction. Giles is a psychology graduate and former NHS surgeon who stepped away from clinical practice 15 years ago. His curiosity about the human condition led him to coaching and to dive deeper into how our psychology really works. Sam works with people to create their dreams/goals whilst understanding their true nature. This allows them not only to be successful in what they're looking for but it creates a reality where they feel free from their own thoughts, emotions and allows them to be fully seen and heard.

    009 - Non-drinkers = Boring?

    009 - Non-drinkers = Boring?

Paula and Jo would like to introduce Melissa who is joining them to discuss the topic of non-drinkers. Melissa made a conscious and some might say contentious decision to give up drinking. She works as a coach and helps to inspire her clients to embrace making their own choice's in life and being empowered. This will be a very interesting conversation that Jo and Paula are keen to explore. Making a choice of not wanting to drink or being a non-drinker can raise its own problems, like having to explain yourself with justifications or being thought of as boring and no fun, when in actual fact it can be quite the opposite. Paula and Jo are very passionate about taking back your power and the growth that comes from within yourself, with the knock on effect to raise your self-esteem and confidence.

008 - Alcohol and Social Norms

008 - Alcohol and Social Norms

Welcome to episode 8 of the Two Roads Travelled podcast. We're talking about social norms. Yes alcohol is legal, yes it’s the way we celebrate and commiserate, relax and unwind. But how long is it before anyone crosses the invisible line into addiction? Kieron James joins Jo and Paula today to share his experience and knowledge. James is a former pub manager and was dependent on alcohol, until he quit 8 years ago.

He worked in and around substance misuse either through peer group facilitation or working in front line services. James setup a coaching business that would help people after addiction service programmes have run their course.

This is an area that Jo and Paula believe is extremely important, the detox is the easy part it's coping in life that is the most challenging. This episode isn't about demonising alcohol, and saying that people shouldn't drink, but to be more responsible with it and how they treat others that struggle with alcoholism.
