    We are talking with Csaba, Founder of Fine Wine To Me and Head of Events & Partnerships at Noble Green wines, Hampton Hill. Csaba is all about encouraging people away from the normal grape varieties and to try all the lesser-known varieties of the world. So we are talking Furmint from Hungry (dry and sweet) and how the puttonyos system has changed. Lots of talk on Sicilian grape varieties and regions, focusing on the Frappato grape and lastly the grape variety Bastardo, also known as Merenzao in Galicia, Spain. We get quite passionate about the Galician wine region and varieties, there’s a good discussion about supermarket wine, even how religion and politics have changed the reputation of certain wine regions. A big shout out to Derek, winemaker at Garage wine co. We love your wines so you get a big fat mention. As Csaba is Hungarian, you will also get a mini-lesson on how to pronounce some of the Hungarian grape varieties.

    Today’s episode is all about the Nebbiolo grape. We discuss all the different regions you can find Nebbiolo but focus more on Barbaresco and specifically The King of the Region: Barolo. We discuss the differences between Barolo and Barbaresco, focusing on flavours and ageing requirements. Learn all about the different soils, villages and crus of Barolo. We discuss the grape variety itself and why it's so fussy to grow – in fact, we get quite geeky this episode. There is a discussion on Modern V Traditional Barolo, the best vintages and great food pairings. You can learn about some of the top wineries such as Gaja, Guiseppe Rinaldi and Elio Altare.

    This episode we have Christian Manthei, originally from Arizona and now happily situated in London working for the incredible Wine Treasury who specialise in California wines. The theme is all about Napa Valley. Learn about the different climates within the region, the soil complexity and parts of it’s history, including lots of the big names such as Robert Mondavi and their influences. Learn about the significance of the 1997 vintage along with The Judgement of Paris. We talk about Fume Blanc in detail and spend a bit of time comparing Napa Valley with Bordeaux. Jon gets super opinionated about Robert Parkers effect on Napa Valley and how much he hates points in general (no surprise here!). And as this is an American episode, there is a fair chunk of talk on American accents, and Chris takes us through the US with his versions of those accents!

Funny, entertaining not only for the wine nerds

Insight into wine industry from those in the know. Love the mixture of knowledge, hard facts, mixed with British humour, banter between the hosts and guests and great wine buying tips. Highly recommend!
