    • Performing Arts

After over a year since theatres shut down across the UK and around the world, the Royal Court Theatre has been leading a charge in the grand reopening of London theatres. One of it's most exciting productions is a new play by Obie and Olivier Award recipient Caryl Churchill. John Heffernan is one of the stars of her new play What If If Only'and very kindly sat down with us to discuss the eagerly anticipated new work by Churchill and what the rehearsal process has been like amidst ongoing restrictions after some time away from the stage. Heffernan most recently starred in acclaimed BBC drama The Pursuit of Love and has also played key roles in Brexit: The Uncivil War, The Crown and films: Official Secrets and Misbehaviour. A certainly increasingly familiar face for his work on screen and on stage, critics and audiences alike have praised John Heffernan's detailed acting and in this interview, we also see a hardworking and enthusiastically charming individual.

John Heffernan previously starred in Caryl Churchill's Love and Information at the Royal Court Theatre alongside fellow co-star of What If If Only  actress Linda Bassett. It seems like a grand reunion with Caryl Churchill also present in the rehearsal room as they guided under the careful direction of Love and Information director James Macdonald. Heffernan reminisces about his early visits to the Royal Court as a keen-eyed student and how he first fell in love with Churchill's work in this candid interview. We get to find out what it's been like working with some of his heroes as well as his hopes for the theatre industry as we move out of the COVID-19 pandemic. It's a truly fascinating interview and we wish the company well as they open on Friday 1st October.
