***How to Get a VA Disability for Depression***  Symptoms of Depression in Veterans - According to the Mayo Clinic, Depression is a “mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.”  Clinical Depression is most often diagnosed as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and it affects how you feel, think, and behave and can lead to a range of mental, emotional, physical, and social problems.  Veterans may have trouble accomplishing normal day-to-day activities, you may be too depressed to leave your home or get out of bed, and sometimes you may even feel as if life isn’t worth living (suicidal thoughts).  Pre-screening for Major Depressive Disorder typically begins with having a Veteran complete the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9).

The VA Rating Official, more commonly known as the RVSR, will eventually make a subjective rating assessment by comparing all your medical evidence and supporting statements along with the C&P examiner's notes on the electronic version of the PTSD DBQ, which will be either the Initial PTSD DBQ (internal VA use only) or the PTSD Review DBQ.  According to CFR 38 PTSD the VA Schedule of Ratings, your VA PTSD claim can be rated from 0% to 100%, with interim breaks at 10%, 30%, 50%, and 70%.  If you already have a VA PTSD claim that’s been decided, and you’ve got a VA rating for PTSD at 0%, 10%, 30%, 50%, or even 70%, but you think you deserve a higher VA rating, all you need for the increase is a disability examination and Medical Nexus Letter for PTSD completed by a private medical provider.
