Power to the people - We beat the billionaires

Power to the people - We beat the billionaires

Has there ever been a crazier 48 hours in football?

On Sunday night we were all hit by the bombshell that 12 greedy European football clubs were intending to break away and form a closed-shop European Super League, threatening the very future of the sport as we know it.

And then by the time we sat down to record this episode on Tuesday evening, it was all beginning to fall apart as Chelsea and Man City pulled out, Man Utd announced Ed Woodward was going to leave the club and football fans began to celebrate what is increasingly looking like a victory for football and a victory for integrity.

All the quick developments on Tuesday evening meant that a lot of it was going on as we were recording, so apologies if it sounds a bit disjointed at times. We tried our very best for it to make it all make sense.

On the show this week, we were joined by former West Ham goalkeeper and co-host of the Footy Prime podcast, Craig Forrest, who was very vocal about the ESL on Sunday night and used our chat to blow off some steam about how he feels about the whole thing. Forrest also discussed Lukasz Fabianski’s mistake against Newcastle last weekend and what he thinks the future holds for our No.1.

Also this week, The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas joined us for a chat about the ESL, the board and the season so far, and David Chidgey from the Chelsea FanCast helps us preview the weekend’s game against the Blues as well as talking through his views as a fan of one of the ESL clubs.

Finally, James and Will chat through their Betway Charity Bets for the Chelsea game and we discuss West Ham Women’s recent two results, including that 11-0 FA Cup win over Chichester City.

It’s another action-packed show and well worth a listen as we and the rest of football continue to digest what has happened in football over the last 72 hours.

    Take a Bowen son

    Take a Bowen son

West Ham beat Leicester in mirror image fashion to last week's victory over Wolves. The Hammers took a 3-0 lead through Jesse Lingard's first-half brace and Jarrod Bowen's strike just after half-time.But in what is rapidly becoming typical fashion, the Irons let the Foxes back in the game and Kelechi Iheanacho's two goals made for a nervy finish. However David Moyes' men held on for a spectacular victory and three points that put them back in fourth and just one point off third placed Leicester with seven games of the season remaining. Will Pugh is joined by Tom Edwards this week to look back on the game as well as looking forward to Saturday's trip to Newcastle. James Jones phoned in sick so it's a two-man show until Jack Rosser from the Evening Standard dials in to give the from-stadium view on the Leicester win.The lads celebrate the biggest win of the season with the Betway charity bets as Jonesy bagged a 40/1 shot to net £2,000 for the DT38 Foundation. Matt Ketch from the Newcastle Chronicle joins to look ahead to West Ham's visit to St James' Park to face the relegation threatened Toon on Saturday lunch time. Will and Tom wrap up the show with a jam-packed West Ham Women section with some huge games approaching. Thanks so much for listening. All hail Lionel Jesse

    All hail Lionel Jesse

West Ham raced into a 3-0 first-half lead again on Monday night against Wolves at Molinuex.

And they almost threw it away for the second week running too.

But driven on by captain fantastic Mark Noble and the Mancunian Maradona Jesse Lingard, the Hammers dug deep and only conceded two to walk away with all three points and go fourth in the Premier League with just eight games to go.

Will Pugh is back in the hotseat after having surgery last week and is joined by James Jones and Tom Edwards as usual.

West Ham correspondent Tom Clark from Football London dials in to look back on the Wolves win having covered the game from the stadium. The boys make their selections for the Betway charity bets.

And former show host Jake Watson also joins the lads for the opposition view as West Ham host Leicester on Sunday in a Champions League qualification showdown.

Tom plays host for the worst episode of Name That Game in history before the lads rejoice in West Ham Women’s 5-0 thrashing of Reading to lift themselves off the bottom of the WSL.

They wrap up with a Fantasy round up before saying goodbye for another week. Thanks so much for listening. You can follow We Are West Ham on Twitter HERE.And the lads can be found @WilliamPugh_, @ByJamesJones and @T0m_Edwards.You can support the podcast or buy the lads a beer HERE.Do SUBSCRIBE to the podcast and RATE, SHARE and REVIEW.COYI. #WHUFC

The world's most expensive potato salad?

The world's most expensive potato salad?

It's been a relatively quiet international break from a West Ham point of view, but three of our players have still be making headlines on the international stage over the last week or two.Tomas Soucek kicked it all off with a perfect hat-trick in Czech Republic's 6-2 win over Estonia last week, and then Jesse Lingard and Declan Rice put in Man of the Match performances for England against San Marino and Albania respectively. It capped off a wonderful week of international football for our three most in-form players this season, meaning international football has turned claret and blue once again. On this week's show, James steps into the presenting hot seat in Will's absence as he and Tom comb over all the big international break stories. The lads also discuss a handful of transfer rumours involving the club, including the danger of big clubs coming in for Tomas Soucek this summer - just how much is he worth right now!?Also this week, James and Tom are joined by Matt from the Wolves Fancast to preview Monday night's game at Wolves and friend of the show Kathryn Batte calls in to discuss West Ham Women's 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford and their increasingly precarious position at the foot of the WSL league table. All that and loads more this week as we enter a huge few months in the club's history. Can we secure European football or will the season end in bitter disappointment? Thanks so much to all of you for listening, it means the world to us.

Pain in the Arsenal - ft. The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg

Pain in the Arsenal - ft. The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg

West Ham threw away a 3-0, yes THREE NIL, lead against Arsenal on Sunday and ended the game clinging on to a 3-3 draw.

Jesse Lingard was one of few bright sparks as the Hammers fell to bits having raced into a convincing lead within 35 minutes.

But the outstanding Alexandre Lacazette, Calum Chambers and Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard led the Gunners in their dramatic comeback at the London Stadium.

An irate Will Pugh is joined by a pragmatic James Jones and a freshly shaven Tom Edwards to discuss the draw that felt like a defeat.

Will makes a We Are West Ham announcement to mark one year since the boys stopped doing the show as a live radio broadcast and started the podcast from home as a result of lockdown.

Top football journalist and West Ham fan Jacob Steinberg from the Guardian dials in to chat to the lads just a week after Tom went after him on Twitter for his post-Man Utd opinions.

Jacob defends his views on Said Benrahma and debates whether he is overrated, sticks up for David Moyes in the face of criticism from some fans and predicts whether or not the mighty Irons will finish in Europe this season.

The guys look back on their agonisingly close Betway charity bet selections and preview which West Ham players are doing what and going where during the international break.

James Jones is in the quizmaster’s seat for the Name That Game quiz with a belter from the early 2010s.

And sports journalist and WSL expert Sandra Brobbey from The Sun joins the lads to discuss the excellent news about the WSL’s new broadcast deal. And West Ham Women’s heartbreaking draw with Birmingham that saw the Blues grab a 94th minute equaliser as well as Saturday's game against Man Utd at Old Trafford.

Thanks so much to all of you for listening, it means the world to us.

Holy (balance) sheet! - ft. 1975 FA Cup winner Patsy Holland

Holy (balance) sheet! - ft. 1975 FA Cup winner Patsy Holland

West Ham lost 1-0 at Manchester United on Sunday night and it’s fair to say the reaction to David Moyes’ set up after the game was varied.

A particular tweet from The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg suggesting criticism of Moyes was ‘pathetic’ and that perhaps Said Benrahma is not as good as some fans like to think he is was met with fury.

Tom Edwards was particularly angry while Will Pugh happened to agree with some of his points.

And this leads to a fiery start to the show with the pair going head to head early on.

West Ham’s accounts for the financial year up to May 2020 were also released last week and conveniently wedged between announcements about Mark Noble’s impending departure and Lukasz Fabianski signing a new contract.

Football finance expert David Bick joins Will, Tom and James Jones to discuss the headline figures, the impact of Covid, profits and losses, Karren Brady’s potential salary and of course interest charged on loans by David Gold and David Sullivan.

The lads make their Betway charity bet selections before Pat Holland - European Cup Winners Cup and FA Cup winner with West Ham and former Arsenal scout – dials in to look ahead to the Gunners’ visit to London Stadium on Sunday.

Will Pugh is the quizmaster for Name That Game.

Daily Mail journalist Kathryn Batte joins to discuss the West Ham Women and their WSL relegation battle.

And the boys sign off with some final thoughts and a Fantasy Premier League update. Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE if you like what we do.
