Wellbeing with Manny in conversation with Mary Burch Wellbeing with Manny in conversation with......

Mary Burch is the lead councillor with Industry Minds, an incredible UK based mental health charity that supports creatives in the arts industry. Mary was my absolute dream guest, and I am honoured that she took the ‘time to talk’ to me! I say that as we recorded this interview a few weeks ago on ‘Time to talk day’, a day very on brand for this podcast!
We talk about self-esteem, rejection, imposter syndrome and the difficulties of supressing negative emotions.
On days when we feel sad it can be our mind and body’s way of asking us to check in and look at what is going on. Negative emotions such as sadness, fear, anger, frustration are all telling us something. It is vital we listen to them and give them some attention, otherwise they sit in our body and physically and mentally weigh us down. As Mary says, “negative emotions go to the basement of our bodies and begin lifting weights!”
Mary talks about the importance of reaching out, talking, and sharing how we feel – of course, if and when we are ready to do so. She encourages us to check in more and listen to others with no judgement, no fear, no agenda. Sometimes knowing someone is there can make all the difference.
I loved this chat with Mary as her experience and general calming, lovely nature made me feel so held and I know you will too.
Enjoy!
TW: We talk a little bit about depression. Please listen when you feel you can.
