Why Fascia is Essential to Yoga The Joanne Avison Podcast

    • Fitness

I was delighted to chat with Ram and Kalyani who are co-founders of Arhanta Online Academy, an important centre of excellence in yoga.

Between us all, we have decades of experience teaching yoga in a variety of ways. Indeed, we could easily have talked (for hours) about yoga as a means to remove pain and improve performance! We know it can play a meaningful role in both and this truth lies at the centre of our  respective work. In this conversation we shine a spotlight on Education in the yoga field and the importance of including both the science and the senses, the form and the feel of yoga as a somatic experience. We talk about this through the lens of Fascia and why it is so essential to understand in any yoga practice.

We cannot reduce that somatic sense to scientific data – however, we can use it wisely to help us find the most appropriate wisdom behind our work; respecting the scientific research that supports it. That is a way to honour the ancient wisdom behind Yoga – which Ram and Kalyani understand so deeply. It's a lovely chat and Ram asked some challenging and valuable questions later on about fascia. It is always a delight to discover we are all coming from similar intentions to make sense of yoga - and make a difference - for all stages of learning and teaching in the field. Always an honour!
