If you are (or aspire to be!) a woman on a mission, this is the podcast for you – especially if you’re feeling stuck or held back by unhelpful thinking. There are so many things that can stop us from stepping into the unknown, fulfilling our calling or reaching our full potential, and they nearly all begin with one thing. Our thoughts! Those pesky, slippery but convincing thoughts that I hear all the time from clients, like but I’m just little old me and who am I to do that?

Join me, Sue Revell, personal leadership coach and your host for these beautifully human conversations with world changing women. Women who have learned how to navigate their own resistance so that they can be in flow and make the world a better place. I’ll be alternating guest episodes, where I talk to the woman behind the mission, with shorter and reflective pods where I look back on the interview to make sure that you and I, together, squeeze out every drop of learning.

#081: I Just Couldn't Find My Voice! with Lou Featherstone

#081: I Just Couldn't Find My Voice! with Lou Featherstone

How many of us can say that we’ve blown our whole life up for our mission? If you’re one of the 69,000 people who follow LuinLuland on Instagram you could be forgiven for thinking that her life is one long transatlantic venture of vintage visibility.

It’s almost unthinkable that someone with such vibrance, energy and passion in front of the camera would once (only a few years ago!) have struggled to show her teeth and find her voice.

So what happened? A diverse career that includes children’s social care in Cardiff, advertising in London, and creating vintage experiences with Airbnb in Portland took a new turn after the pandemic. Spurred on by an unexpected midlife encounter with the Vagina Whisperer, Lou’s increasing online visibility and the response of those who were drawn to her radiant online presence, all helped her to find her voice.

Ready to return to the UK, Lou prepared to leave her family and crowd-sourced the purchase of a lime green & shocking pink 35ft vintage disco motorhome, and began her drive across America on the Self Love Revolution tour (now in the UK!), encouraging other women to love themselves too.

Lou Featherstone is an accidental middle age influencer and positivity rebel (more below).

This episode is for women who want to find their own voice, step out of their comfort zone and feel empowered to love who they really are.

#082: Looking back on "I Just Couldn't Find My Voice!" with Lou Featherstone

#082: Looking back on "I Just Couldn't Find My Voice!" with Lou Featherstone

Have you ever wished you had more confidence? Or sat around waiting to do something until you feel more confident to make a start? Or worse still, missed out on that next big thing because you just weren’t confident enough to even try?

In last week’s interview (#081) I talked to positivity rebel and accidental mid-life influencer, Lou Featherstone, who not so very long ago couldn’t find her voice or bring herself to show her teeth on camera. Some 70,000 Instagram followers later, Lou discovered that the more she showed up on camera, the more people followed her and the more confident she became.  Why? Because confidence is a result, not a requirement!!

Looking back on our conversation, in this week’s episode I reflect on the biggest mistake we make around confidence and why confidence is so much more than the things that we do. Most importantly I share how, once we understand what true confidence is, no-one can take it away from us.

If you’re a woman on a mission who would love to find your voice and feel more confident in who you are becoming in your mission, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#083: Self-Validation: Shifting the Dial with Natalie Balmain

Imagine you were the alternative Prime Minister. What would you change if you ran the country?
This week’s guest describes herself as the kid who never gave up on the idea of a fair, perfect world and she’s on a mission to challenge societal constructs in her fight for freedom and democracy.

Natalie Balmain is a campaigner, designer and broadcaster, and the winner of Channel 4’s political reality game show, Make Me Prime Minister.  But where did she come from, what led her to compete and what impact did winning the show have on her political mission?

Listen in to find out how her determination to create a place for normal people in politics is transforming her life on her journey to become less Malcolm X and more Dr King!

This episode is for women who want to boost their self esteem, take more risk, and increase their sphere of influence.

MORE ABOUT MY GUEST: NATALIE BALMAIN (FULL BIO ON PODPAGE)
Natalie Balmain is a campaigner, designer and broadcaster, with a special interest in the role of capitalism in democracy, and how wealth-based policy influencing shapes the fabric of society. She lives in Manchester with her rescue dog Tito, and spends her free time advocating for awareness of Type 1 Diabetes and ADHD, both of which she lives with herself. Natalie first came to the media's attention in 2017 when she launched a clothing range for women living with Type 1 Diabetes, that allowed them to do their injections or wear their insulin pumps more easily. She has had over 3.5million views on the BBC and counts Barack Obama and Tom Cruise amongst her Twitter followers! In 2022, Natalie took part in the first ever series of 'Make Me Prime Minister' on Channel 4, and was crowned 'Britain's Alternative Prime Minister' after winning the show!

#084: Looking back on "Self-Validation: Shifting The Dial" with Natalie Balmain

#084: Looking back on "Self-Validation: Shifting The Dial" with Natalie Balmain

How do you know when you’re doing a great job?  Are you someone who desperately craves feedback and approval every step of the way or are you so deeply certain of what you are doing that you wouldn’t even think to ask for someone else’s perspective?

In last week’s interview (#083) I talked to campaigner, designer and broadcaster Natalie Balmain who, last autumn, won the Channel 4 political reality show, Make Me Prime Minister. The more we discussed the woman behind the mission, the clearer it became that something deeply transformational had occurred within Natalie after she won the show, and shifting the dial on self-validation was right at the heart of the change taking place.

But how do we do that?

Looking back on our conversation, this week I consider the relationship between validation and self-confidence.  You’ll also discover how an encounter with a super-pompous dental professor completely transformed my understanding of how we can build confidence from the inside out.

If you’re a woman on a mission who would love to shift the dial on knowing when you’re doing a great job, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

Women on a mission series with Sue REVELL

The second you press play and hear Sue’s dulcet, soothing voice you are transformed into a state of calmness yet addictive listening where you hear her every word with a sense of increased sensitivity. This enables you to transport yourself to the place you need to be, in a virtual sense, to learn from the wonderful women that Sue is interviewing. Some are magical, energetic, vibrant whilst others express a sense wisdom and experience only living a full career can possibly create. But every podcast gives me a sense of connection of reinvigoration again with women I feel I come to know and admire.

If you are seeking a sense of belonging, looking for your tribe because you just can’t find it in the real world then Women on a Mission is a club to join. Take yourself on a journey with a cup of coffee each week, you deserve it and who knows you just might hear what you need to hear, when you need to hear it! I know I feel that every time I’d listen in, like I was meant to hear this guest this week :)

To all potential listeners, press play and find a few minutes to find yourself.
To my wonderful friend Sue (I wonder if everyone considers you to be there wonderful friend?) keep finding these amazing women, keep doing your thing, you are having a wider impact than you could ever possibly know x

The transformation of vulnerability

Loved the episode from Jess Baker, as I thought her vulnerability was just so authentic and felt privileged to have the at insight into her background / limiting beliefs and childhood psychologist etc… I felt the admission of the mission being unknown in some ways quite refreshing, as it’s about giving yourself permission too. I learned more about just allowing yourself to be, rather than to do - I’m trying to focus on the being and not only doing!!!
