The thoughts and chat of John Cassidy and Steven Watt as they give their take on the world of running, marathoning and ultra marathoning.
S2 Eps 8 Young Hearts, Run Free Graham Connolly The Ultra Entertainer 21 Jan 2021
In this episode we welcome a guy who has a seriously good way of telling a serious personal story.
Graham Connolly competes at the sharp end of ultra marathons, battling for those cherished podium places for which he's enjoyed a few. John & Steven caught up with him to find out more about how he found his spark in running and how he went from newcomer to competitor in a surprisingly short period of time.
Graham's serious message is one of his own mental health. Graham gives us an open and honest account of this and how he has used running and found coping strategies to overcome these difficulties. It's an often-taboo subject to discuss and hearing about it in such a straight talking style from a man who faced up to his own demons we hope goes a little bit towards breaking it's persistent social stigma. If this helps one person in any way, shape or form then it's been a worthwhile chat to have.
There's so much more to hear about too, Graham is a fella who put us to shame with his pre-podcast prep, we find out that level of planning carries over into his approach to running and racing. He doesn't keep all that positive energy to himself either, no, no no....Graham is a self confessed 'Support Crew Groupie' lending his vital knowledge, support and experience to, amongst others, his coach and fellow Pyllon Ultra Athlete Paul Giblin. We're absolutely fascinated to hear about a memorable support crew visit to the Barkley Marathon in Tennessee.....a trip that's whetted Graham's appetite for future big adventures!!
Graham entertained us, we're sure he'll entertain you. Now come on in and enjoy a cracker of an episode.......

S2 Eps 7 - Young Hearts, Run Free - Hello 2021 - 15 Jan 2021
We've held back the release of our next planned podcast, this week we were rocked by the news of the passing of John Kynaston.
John was a well kent face in the ultra running community, in fact he was a well kent face in lots of communities. Our planned next podcast had already been recorded when we heard the extremely sad news about John. Like many other of our podcasts, John was mentioned in it.
Like others who had the privilege to meet or chat to John we were both infected by his enthusiasm and passion for the sport and for the outdoors in general. John was an absolute colossus of a man and his energy for life will be sadly missed by many. We have a chat about John in recognition of what he meant to us and we're sure we echo others in saying how deeply he will be missed by the hundreds and thousands of people he motivated and inspired.
We also have a chat about our own hopes and plans for 2021, what our targets are and how we intend achieving those. It's been a snowy week here in Perthshire so we suss out how we adapt our individual running schedules to meet the wintery conditions.
In this episode we refer to the many blogs, podcasts and video content John Kynaston has produced over his years involved in the world of running. These are all linked here https://johnkynaston.com/ and we are sure that John would've loved you to access these, take a look it'll give you a flavour of just the man John was. Our thoughts and hearts are with John's family and friends at this most difficult of times.

It's a refreshing and honest chat as Grant leaves no stone unturned and shows us all that bounce-backability and resilience can lead you to amazing heights! Grant is a proud member of the Pyllon Ultra stable and lifts the lid on how the accountability of his training plan has lead him to reach his goals. Grab the ear pods and settle down for a fascinating insight into another superb Scottish athlete!

S2 Eps 4 Young Hearts, Run Free - Debbie Martin-Consani 18 Dec 2020
Season 2 keeps rolling, the guests keep showing.
You're in for a festive treat as we welcome to the podcast ultra 'ultra marathon runner' Debbie Martin-Consani.
Now, we could've spoken to Debbie for hours on end, her passion, insight and humour for running seem absolutely boundless. So, instead of having an epic 5 hour long podcast we focussed on two things, the Montane Spine Race and Marcothon.
Two topics Debbie is more than qualified to chat about!! Debbie's only race of 2020, yes she raced in 2020, was the small matter of 268 miles long. The Montane Spine Race starts in Edale in Derbyshire and finishes in Kirk Yetholm in the bonnie Scottish Borders following the Penine Way National Trail. It's run in deepest darkest January, so daylight is at a premium and the 2020 edition had a guest appearance from Storm Brendan. Listen to the tale of Debbie's race, it's truly inspirational.
The second part of the show focuses on Marcothon!! The much-loved challenge of running either 3 miles or 25 minutes (whichever comes first) every day for the month of December. Debbie is the founder of this amazing movement. Hear from the source about how Marcothon came about, how it grew (and grew and grew) and how it pretty much fills a month of Debbie's time every year! Whilst simultaneously she trains for the Spine Race 2021, oh yes, Debbie is going back for more Spine tingling fun!!
Grab a brew, go for a run, head out for a walk, whatever way you listen enjoy!
Remember to give us a follow and chat to us over on our social channels Instagram and Twitter

Many of you will be taking part in these, with Marcothon being a particular favourite. Many of you won't be partaking in them too. Whatever camp you're in we try to cover the bases.
Find out what hair brained challenge John is in the midst of!! No prizes for guessing it's a bit mad cap, like always.
We also speak about the ongoing Auchterarder Running Festive event with a first ever outside broadcast from the Chilly Chilli 10k Trail Race (warning the sound is a bit keich as our equipment is limited!)
We also hint at some of the future guests we have lined up to take season 2 into the stratosphere!!!
