Alan Carr
Comedian and presenter Alan Carr’s summer is a mix of hard graft and guilty pleasure: “I love summer. Any excuse to get my trotters out! It’s also my busiest time of the year workwise, so, often, my jobs become my holidays, which sounds sad but actually is a lot of fun. I was recently on a beach in Mudeford near Bournemouth filming the first episode of a brand-new series of Interior Design Masters. I was sat there having fish and chips in a deckchair in the gorgeous sunshine, thinking, ‘I can’t believe this is my job!’”
He’s also busy filming Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job, his renovation show with Amanda Holden. “I’m often knocking a wall down or wallpapering a run-down shack in a gorgeous location. This year, it’s the beautiful island of Corfu. Me and Amanda always rehydrate at the end of the day with an Aperol Spritz.”
With so much time on the move, podcasts are Alan’s perfect travel companion. “I will put on a podcast mainly for a bit of company. If you get a good one—good subject matter and good banter—the journey can fly by.”
Alan’s summer podcasts:
“Obviously, I’m biased, but my fave is Life’s A Beach, my own travel podcast. We try and get the balance just right: silly, relatable holiday stories, yet with essential travel hacks and hidden gems of places to visit off the beaten track that only the locals know about. People sometimes say to me, ‘I wish Chattyman would come back.’ And I say, listen to Life’s A Beach. It’s just as raucous, cheeky and fun. It’s definitely Chattyman in spirit.”
“Other podcasts I listen to are Table Manners. I love Jessie’s relationship with her mother. I’ve been a guest on it, and you get great chat and also a delicious meal. Win win!”
“Paloma Faith’s podcast Mad, Sad and Bad is great. I love her energy. She’s mad as a box of frogs, and you never know where the conversation is going to go. Nothing is off limits, which is what you want when you listen to a podcast.”
“Death in Ice Valley is about the mysterious death of a lady in a valley outside Bergen. It’s true crime at its best and will have you hooked. Listen to it and thank me later.”
My Therapist Ghosted Me: “Vogue and Joanne are hilarious; they make me LOL. I had to pull over once I was laughing so hard. Everything they say seems to be funny! Love it.”
The Rest Is History: “I love history, and Tom and Dominic really get stuck into their subject and make it so accessible and enjoyable. Some history podcasts can make you feel alienated and that history is not for you. This does the opposite.”
