Join me for historical tales from the iron age through to the emergence of gunpowder (I lose interest then).

I research my stories based around a peculiar event or a character that amuses me. What develops from there can often lead to some surprising tales and some interesting perspectives to well known events.

I have plenty of projects half written, jotted down on the back of a beer mat or stored in the depths of my memory somewhere so keep checking back for more content.

Sir John Hotham and the start of The English Civil War

Sir John Hotham and the start of The English Civil War

The story of Sir John Hotham 'the traitor at the gate' is well told in the city of Hull and being a local I have heard it many times before. However, there is a whole year between Hotham refusing the King entry to the city and his capture and it turns out this is the most interesting part of the story. I don't understand why all the best bits have been discarded over the years.....so I aim to change that. This is a story of plot, intrigue, spying and double crossing that will follow John Hotham and the residents of Beverley as we discover the events surrounding the start of The English Civil War. I hope you enjoy.  stepthroughhistory@gmail.com

The Scottish Wars of Independence - The sack of Yorkshire

The Scottish Wars of Independence - The sack of Yorkshire

As Robert the Bruce wrestles the Scottish Kingdom back from the English,  it would be the north of England that would take the brunt of the long  conflict. This tale takes you to Yorkshire, where a small town,  preparing for the arrival of a rampant Scottish army relied on a  peculiar and untested method of  defence.
This is a complete overhaul of an earlier story, I am hoping to tell this tale from the locations in the story for my you tube channel, head on over for that and more.

The Anglo-Saxon Conversion to Christianity - King Edwin, Coifi and Paulinus

The Anglo-Saxon Conversion to Christianity - King Edwin, Coifi and Paulinus

follow the you tube link for the video of this story. https://youtu.be/4kOaVE_EV6M This is a tale about the first major push for Christianity in the Anglo-Saxon world and covers the life of King Edwin, one of the great rulers of Northumbria. It still surprises me after writing it that such a roller coaster tale takes place in a period spanning less than 40 years. I hope you enjoy.
As soon as the weather is nice I will make a video of this story for my you tube channel.

The Pilgrimage of Grace (teaser trailer)

The Pilgrimage of Grace (teaser trailer)

Just a little snippet from my next big story and I've thrown in the life of John Fisher as a cheeky bonus too....now I will get back to writing it. It is rather good even if I do say so myself. UPDATE this is taking much longer to write as I have found so much out that it is taking quite a while to formulate it in to a coherent and tight narrative but it will be worth it I promise 😃
