The Joy of Silk Journal of Biophilic Design

    • Documentary

A familiar face to thousands of TV viewers, award-winning interior designer, George Bond first appeared on TV as co-presenter on ITV “better Homes”: with Carol Vorderman. In his own interior design practice he has transformed homes and spaces into amazing spaces. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, is a judge, served as director on various professional societies, but most of all he is a visionary creative interior designer.

In this podcast, George sets the scene for the first half, explaining his background, his interior design journey which has taken him all over the world, and then from 22:32 we revel in the delights of texture, natural materials, acoustics and fabrics.

It is so refreshing in Biophilic Design to speak with a designer about the love of natural materials for the sake of the quality of the materials themselves. His approach is intuitive, artistic, and his use of natural materials, is well, so natural.

Enjoy our conversation as we chat about the beauty of natural fabrics, velvet, silks, linens, cottons, natural dyes and also why mirrors are important in his work. We speak about bringing light into interiors, colours, plants and handprinted botanicals. We chat about the new and the old, how a contemporary “cloud kitchen” in an old school house was inspired by a Harwood House interior bedroom. Both are decorated with handprinted clouds, giving the effect of bringing the outside in, that the sky is just above us and all around when inside.

Listen out for the announcement at the end of the podcast where he tells us of a World Exclusive exciting collaboration across the water between him here in the UK and a designer in India, he describes the 18th century methods, the natural materials and dyes used in this project. Very exciting, and we look forward to filming more about this in due course, so bookmark the podcast and follow us on www.journalofbiophilicdesign.com
